Emby not recognizing Quick Sync Capability

Recommended Posts

I've searched through the Knowledge-base and forum but haven't been able to solve this issue!

I just got a NUC8i5INH with an i5-8265U processor. I have updated the bios as well as all drivers directly from Intel.

In the transcoding menu, I am only able to see the graphics card as an encoding/decoding option.

I see that this processor is Quick Sync supported, but I'm wondering why I don't see it as an option under Emby transcoding?

The transcoding seems to be working fine, just curious if I am missing out by not utilizing the CPU that I bought the NUC for.

Hi, are you able to try the 4.8 beta server and see how that compares?

Same story, I am able to see the graphics card, but no processor/quicksync option.

OK please attach the emby server and hardware detection log files from that. Thanks.

As far as i know, QuickSync is a feature of the iGPU of the CPU.

So, as you are using an seperate GPU (Radeon) I would think, that the iGPU is deactivated and so you cannot use QuickSync.

Look into the BIOS, there might be an option to activate the iGPU even with "external" GPU.

Yes, that is what I've been thinking! I have looked through the bios to no avail. I wonder how others with Intel NUCs are getting around this.

I posted a similar thread on Reddit, and this is what I found: Apparently the model of NUC I bought doesn't contain an iGpu on board, and the radeon is the only graphics card. Leaving this here for anyone else looking to purchase a NUC so they don't make the same mistake that I did.

Yes, that's a really unfortunate case. What could have made you suspicious is the presence of the AMD graphics, which is pretty weak either - i.e. it doesn't turn the NUC into a gaming machine - so why would they even add this component which doesn't make the design cheaper for them?

I immediately thought the same as one of the reddit commenters:

It's likely Intel was binning CPUs with dead iGPUs for manufacturing these particular NUCs

Another confirmation that it's not accessuble is the fact that the download list doesn't contain any Intel Graphics drivers.

Luckily I got a really good deal on it. I have another gaming PC with a 6th gen i7 and Nvidia 1060 that I will turn into my media server and give this machine to my dad to use. Very excited to see what Emby can do on a better machine!

But yeah unfortunately I didn't know much about NUCs when I bought this one. I saw the AMD Graphics when purchasing and assumed I would still be able to use the iGPU for transcoding.
