tmurphy2792 27 Posted December 25, 2023 Posted December 25, 2023 Hello all! So some context here to hopefully explain what I'm trying to do. For the last several months I've been running emby on a terramaster NAS that is severely underpowered in the CPU dept and cannot handle any transcoding. Since recently upgrading to premiere I've been playing with using NextPVR running on an old windows PC using a Hauppauge USB TV tuner. This PC is ok in specs, running on an older intel i5 (don't remember the gen). For the most part this works fine as my main roku tv appears to be able to handle it and it only needs to "Convert to compatible container". But for a lot of other devices on my network, or if I'm out of the house accessing from mobile data it needs to transcode the video to h.264 at a lower bitrate, which emby attempts to do and my terramaster cannot handle it. Maybe this is a better question for the NextPVR forums. But I've tried playing with the transcoding settings in NextPVR and they only seem to affect devices connecting through the webui. I've also tried connecting emby through the nextPVR plugin, as well as pointing it at the m3u playlist that nextPVR has. None of this seemed to make a difference. If I connect directly to NextPVR through the web interface it will transcode on the NextPVR host machine and work beautifully. If I connect to emby or use the m3u playlist from something like vlc, it wants to give the direct stream as it's received OTA and will not be transcoded. My question is this: Is there a way to make my current setup work? Such as changing a setting in NextPVR to force the feed to always output transcoded to a more friendly format? Or is there a way to get emby to offload the transcode request to the NextPVR server rather than attempting to do it natively? Or maybe a way to modify the m3u url to get a transcoded feed? Or is this just something I need to learn to live with until I can dedicate better hardware to my emby server? Thanks in advance for any assistance or advice anyone can offer.

Luke 42081 Posted December 25, 2023 Posted December 25, 2023 HI, the way it works is that Emby takes the original raw stream and it handles the transcoding, not Next PVR. We don't have any settings right now to offload that to NextPVR.
tmurphy2792 27 Posted December 25, 2023 Author Posted December 25, 2023 (edited) Thanks Luke. I guess my best bet is to check with the npvr community to see if there's a workaround on that end. Edited December 25, 2023 by tmurphy2792 Didn't mean to ask a stupid question he already answered. 1
