Amazon Fire TV Goes to Sleep playing Emby Music after 20 min

Amazon Fire TV Goes to sleep playing Emby Music after 20 min.   This does not happen using Amazon Music app on Amazon Fire TV.

On Google TV, Emby Music does NOT go to sleep after 20 min.

I have checked all Amazon TV and Emby options that could cause this interruption but I have not found anything that works.  

Any ideas?

Hi Luke,

Sorry it took me a while to test your suggestion.   

I uninstalled the normal Emby from the Amazon App store first.     I installed Downloader and uploaded the Arm7 Apk.   I successfully installed it.

Started my timer and an Emby Music playlist.   At exactly 20 minutes,  the screen goes black and no more music is heard.    

Same behavior I had with the Amazon App store Emby.    

Any other ideas?

What version number did you try?

I used the arm7 link in the https://emby.media/emby-for-android.html  page.

The filename is: emby-android-google-armeabi-v7a-release.apk

I use this Amazon TV device in a workshop environment and all I do is listen to music with it.   I never thought of playing a movie.   So I tested it this morning and It also stops after 20 minutes.    Just thought you should know that it's not only Music.

Disregard previous post (someone shut it off while I was away, grr).  Movies works fine, device doesn't go in sleep mode.   Only with Music does the issue happen.

I have also noticed this during music playback.  It is irritating with the FireTV as you need to return to Emby, find Now Playing, and do what you want to do with the music.

Hi.  Can you describe exactly how you are listening to the music?  The steps you use to start it and then where you leave the screen to listen?

1) From the amazon Fire Stick Screen, I select Emby app.   I used the app config tool to put Emby as the first app listed on the right of the Home button on the main screen

2) The Emby home page appears.   I will do either   A)  Move to Playlist in My Media Section, select a play list, select play and stop pressing button.    or B)_ Go to Music Library, pick an Artist, Pick an Album and play

3) Once the music start I just leave it.   Sometimes I will click the show Queue button, but mostly when music starts I leave it.

By the way, their is a hack fix for this issue which can be done by enabling Developer Tools on the Fire Stick and enabling ADB Debugging.    There we can set the Sleep Timeout to 0 instead of the default 20 minutes.    However, since amazon music and spotify don't have that issue, I suspect there is a flag that needs to be enabled by Emby to tell the firestick to not go to sleep.

Yes and we do that so I'm not sure why your device is going to sleep.

When you said "Your Device" it reminded me that I have 2 other Amazon Fire Stick in the house.   I tested the following:

1) Fire TV Stick 4k -  No issues with Sleep timeout

2) Fire TV Stick Basic Edition - No Issues with Sleep Timeout

3) Fire TV Stick 4k Max - That is the one with the issue.

So I did a reset to factory Default on the Fire TV Stick 4k Max, I didn't use any backups to load settings.    Installed Emby.   Still an issue with Sleep timeout.

At this point, I am content in swapping the Fire Stick in the work shop and dropping this issue.   If you have any ideas though I am very curious to know what the issue is.

Well...  This is what I ended up doing to disable sleep mode on my Fire TV box...

From the Fire TV:

• Enabled Developer Mode on the Fire TV
  • Settings -> My Fire TV -> About
  • Clicked on "Fire TV" 7 times or until it told me I was a Developer.
• Found the IP address of my Fire TV box
  • Within the same About menu, go to Network.  Should show your IP to the right.

From a PC/Linux System with adb tool set installed:

• Connect to the Fire TV via adb...
  • Execute:  

    adb connect ip_address:5555

    • I think at this point the Fire TV prompted me if it was OK to connect via my system.
• Get to the Fire TV shell...
  • Execute: 

    adb shell

    • At this point you should be in the shell of the Fire TV.
    • If wanted...  Record the original timeout settings (Probably 1200000)
      • Execute:  

        settings get secure sleep_timeout

    • Set the timeout settings to 0 to disable, or the timeout you want in milliseconds.
      • Execute: 

        settings put secure sleep_timeout 0

    • Logout from the Fire TV.
      • Execute: 

        exit

• Disconnect adb from the Fire TV...
  • Execute: 

    adb disconnect
