Is there a way to display file names instead of metadata?

I have a bunch of files that aren't identifiable by whatever metadata it's using, and I'd rather use the file names.

Does this option help at all? (Advanced Settings toggle of the Library)

That's already unchecked, which I think is right, but it sounds like I would need to get rid of the metadata first. So I just deleted my metadata folder, but I'm still not getting file names.

use home videos library type

Yes, this. Or disable internet metadata provers in library options before setting up the library. Then you can use any content type.
