Turbofiero 5 Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 This used to work fine, im not sure what happened over the past year or so, but it would seem I can no longer direct play HEVC content despite having the codec installed and edge://media-internals CDMs do show hevc listed... Suggestions? Issue is present on any device even ones that do have hevc support Key System: com.microsoft.playready Robustness: Software Secure Name: PlayReady Content Decryption Module Version: 0.0.0.1 Path: N/A Status: Enabled Capabilities: {"Audio Codecs":[],"Encryption Schemes":["CENC"],"Session Types":["temporary","persistent-license"],"Video Codecs":{"dolbyvision":[],"h264":[],"hevc":[],"vp8":[],"vp9":[]}}
Luke 42081 Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 Hi there, have you explored the stats feature in the video player to learn why a conversion was taking place?
Turbofiero 5 Posted December 11, 2023 Author Posted December 11, 2023 It said codec not supported, but I have found the culprit HEVC playback has been broken on edge since 117... downgrading to 116.0.1938.98 has resolved all HEVC related issues
Luke 42081 Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 Do you have the windows store hevc extension installed?
Turbofiero 5 Posted December 11, 2023 Author Posted December 11, 2023 (edited) Yup, otherwise the copy/paste up there from edge://media-internals wouldnt have hevc listed Edited December 11, 2023 by Turbofiero
GrimReaper 4744 Posted December 11, 2023 Posted December 11, 2023 FWIW Having no issues with HEVC (8-bit or 10-bit) and AAC/AC3 audio DirectPlaying on Edge 117.x (Win 10).
Turbofiero 5 Posted December 11, 2023 Author Posted December 11, 2023 Interesting, what exact version? edge://version

Turbofiero 5 Posted December 11, 2023 Author Posted December 11, 2023 interesting, this version doesnt work for me, and http://ott.dolby.com/codec_test/index.html indicates you have h265 support? What version of the HEVC Video Extension from the ms store are you running? Wonder why its working for you and not me... others seem to be having issues with av1 as of version 117.x

Turbofiero 5 Posted December 11, 2023 Author Posted December 11, 2023 (edited) Thanks for the screenshots! Issue seems to be present on another machine but instead of hevc breaking on version 117 on this other machine 120 breaks it Very odd... I wonder if you were to update to 120, would hevc still work Edited December 11, 2023 by Turbofiero

Either way, I keep other browsers (MS Edge, Chrome, Firefox) installed and occasionally updated just for forum support, Chromium Marmaduke is my web-player of choice, you might wanna give it a spin and see how does that compare.
