econ 74 Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 When I or any other user attempt to use app.emby.media to connect with emby connect they are able to login but the internal IP is reported on the main select server page and you get the error unable to reach 'server name'. If you right click and click view server info the correct internal and external IP are reported. It is not a firewall issue as I am able to manually connect via the external IP address in the browser. This is happening to all the servers I have listed in my emby connect and can reproduce with multiple users on multiple machines and browsers. In private browsing also doesn't help. Connecting via the iPhone app works fine externally.
GrimReaper 4744 Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Do you have SSL setup on your server? Yoir browser might be force redirecting you to https://app.emby.media, try using http://app.emby.media (drop the "s" from "https"). Check that that address is actually shown in your address bar (http, not https and you have no lock icon).
econ 74 Posted December 9, 2023 Author Posted December 9, 2023 I do. That suggestion fixed it. What is interesting is the view server info reports the remote WAN info as just http even when loading the https page. You would think it would try https first and if not available then fail over to http. Regardless, thanks for the assist!

Are you behind reverse proxy? If not, is your certificate valid?

I think it is just that regular end users type app.emby.media in the browser and it auto forwards them to the https address.
ebr 16186 Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Okay, so that's why it didn't do this: 3 hours ago, econ said: You would think it would try https first You have told it not to. Change that setting to "Prefer" or "Require".

Are you saying change it to prefer, then when the user loads https://app.emby.media it will try the secure connection first and then fail over to the http connection? I'm trying to make it as simple as possible for end users that don't know the difference between https and http. Thanks for the assist!
pwhodges 2012 Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 "Simple" is off the table now that the main browsers will force an https connection to app.emby.media even if you don't ask for it - which in return will only work if you have ssl set up on your server (or reverse proxy). The alternative is to change some browser settings, or to make direct connections to your server instead of using the emby address. Paul

If that fails, though, I'm not sure the browser is going to allow a fail over to http.

Yea no, that won't work because if you need http, then they will have to manually redirect the browser to http://app.emby.media For best results for all of your users where things will just work, either stick to using installed Emby apps, or setup SSL on your Emby Server.

econ 74 Posted December 14, 2023 Author Posted December 14, 2023 Sorry for the delay, I have been traveling for work. My secure connection mode is set to disabled. I misunderstood your previous question about SSL. I am only using a self signed cert currently but can connect externally via the https port in a web browser. When a user opens a new browser window and types in just app.emby.media, it sends them to https://app.emby.media. However, it seems to be advertising the http address with my current settings. If I am on the page https://app.emby.media and I go to view server info, I see: Remote (WAN) Address http://x.x.x.x:8096
Luke 42081 Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 They could still type in your https address, but then of course the browser might still reject the certificate.
