Is there a possibility to manage metadata easily in Excel or similar?

Many times I disagree with TVDB categories for the movies. Some have way too many for example. I would want an easy excel spreadsheet that I can edit and update my Emby server from that. Is it possible?

Hi, there is currently no way to import metadata from an excel spreadsheet. We plan to add bulk edit features in future updates. Thanks.

Managing metadata in Excel is possible, and it’s pretty straightforward once you get the hang of it. Excel is great for organizing and sorting data, so if you’ve got a list of files, documents, or any other items with metadata, you can set up a spreadsheet with columns for each metadata property, like name, type, date, or keyword.

To make it easier, you can use built-in Excel features like data validation, drop-down menus, or conditional formatting to highlight specific values. If you want something more advanced, there are add-ins like Power Query to clean and automate your metadata workflows.

I had a similar issue with organizing my movie collection, and I ended up creating a custom spreadsheet for it. I used Excel to track all the metadata—like movie title, genre, release year, etc.—and then linked it to my media server for easier management.

It’s totally possible to set something up like that, especially with Excel’s ability to handle bulk data and customize your categories. I even found a great tip on Excel.tv (https://excel.tv/) about using macros to automate some of the process. If you’re comfortable editing the spreadsheet, you can use it to update your Emby server too.
