Emby server migration - nfo didn't bring metadata with it?

Hi!

I successfully migrated servers with the backup tool. Great job!

However, when pointing the libraries to the files, the new server just searched for metadata from the web like normal, generatign new thumbnails and collections, ignoring the nfo files next to the media files. I have "nfo metadata saver: enabled" for the old and new server. What am I missing? Thanks!

That should've not happened if NFOs present with media - do you have Metadata Readers>NFO in library settings enabled on your new server?

I tried re-coping all the nfo stuff over but doesn't seem to have changed everything

I'm having a bit of a trouble following at which stage you're currently on. Do you also save artwork with your media?

Oh, do I need to save artwork into media folders as well? I just have write nfo enabled.

NFOs contain textual part of your metadata (info, overviews, ratings etc.), if you want to preserve graphical parts (posters, backdrops, thumbs etc.) you need to store artwork with media as well. Thumbnails can only be carried over if opted for 10-second bifs and saved with media, 5-minute chapter thumbs can only be saved in server metadata folder and would have to be re-extracted in the new server.

Ahhh that's it! Is there a task I can run on my old server to save those poster/wallpaper images? Thanks!

Only Refresh Metadata with Replace images enabled, but you'd lose all your custom edits (if any).

Shoot, I guess I have to redo it all. Thanks!

FYI - Even with NFO files present, the system still may search your enabled metadata providers to fill in missing information.
