JuJuJurassic 49 Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Is there a way of blocking a user (remote) from seeing 4K films? I have 1080p and 4K versions of the same films, I want them to just see the 1080P films to reduce the transcoding needs on my server. Thanks Â
darkassassin07 652 Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Either separate the 4k movies into another library that that user is restricted from accessing, or tag each one with something like "4K" then block the user from seeing items with that tag under parental controls.
RanmaCanada 496 Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 As the other user states, have your 4k media in a separate library and just don't give them access to it. You can also do it with Dolbyvision files as well. Yes it's more heavy lifting as you the admin, but in the long run it makes it easier to block users from content they can't direct play.
rbjtech 5284 Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 (edited) The most flexible way I've found is to just use Tag's. Been there done that with a seperate 4K library, but it just adds a layer of unnecessary complexity. If you run something like the MediaInfo plugin - then it has the option to automatically Tag all the codecs - and thus you can simply 'deny' them access to anything 'UHD' in the example below.  Other examples are if you know they don't have a Dolby Vision capable TV, then deny them 'DV5' (as it won't transcode properly). Edited December 7, 2023 by rbjtech 1
JuJuJurassic 49 Posted December 7, 2023 Author Posted December 7, 2023 Of Course, Tags! I used the Bulky Plug-In to filter all 4K filme, then tagged them, then restricted access. Brilliant, works perfectly. Thank you Â
