Yes - I also followed the instructions. It worked perfectly.

But I still can't get Directplay to work - only http instead of file. Network paths are stored in the libraries, and the server is also entered as storage in the shield. Have I overlooked something somewhere?

On three shields i could never get that direct file play to work correctly. @FrostByteand i spent considerable time comparing our systems to trouble shoot and it was a no go. If you do manage to figure it out, i would be very curious to learn your solution,

Problem found. Somehow the shield absolutely wants the server name. However, the optional network path was entered everywhere for my IP addresses. And the app didn't accept that.

Another problem: with 8.2.3, DTS-HD HighResolution no longer works. If I deactivate DTS-HD Passtrough, DTS-X and DTS-HD Master are also passed through as PCM. What can I do about this?

I was already using actual server name.

Have you also stored the alternative path correctly in the library?

Yes. I can play tv shows but the full remux such has my 4k uhd movies will not start. Lower bit rate stuff works so i know my pathing is correct.

Sorry, but if you don't know how to install a zip file in Kodi, then it's better not to do it at all. This is absolute basic knowledge. If you have to ask here, you won't be able to cope with the rest.

That's strange now - I only get this from a single disc with "file" - all others are with http

@Audiomixer

Why doesn't the Nvidia Shield accept an IP address for network storage? That would make things a lot easier.

So you may need to wait for the shield to index the files.   In vlc or a file mgr on the shield,  browse/play the file via the unc.  If it plays fine, then so should emby.

Remember the optional path needs to be the same as the shield - ie capd server name -  \\CAPS_SERVER\share

Also worth checking the file share on the shield to check it has x gb/tb on it.  If its zero, then it could be permissions.

I'm using a windows smb share with a dedicated username and pwd - but it should not make any difference as long as the shield has smb read access.

You need passthrough on.   I've set my shield to auto on its audio settings.

All hd audio is passed as hd audio on my denon, need to 100% check hra though as I seem to recall 'some' issues but not at home for week or so to check.

Perhaps this is aimed at me? Yes capd server name as you have. These files all play fine in vlc. What version of smb are you using?

How do you check this “Also worth checking the file share on the shield to check it has x gb/tb on it.  If its zero, then it could be permissions.

I have just managed to get every video to show file instead of http. The error was that the network path was too long. I have re-shared every single folder above the videos.
Old path: \\SERVER\EXOS18TB\Emby\EXOS18TB-Movies
New path: \\SERVER\EXOS18TB-Movies

Then disconnected the server on the shield and reconnected it - restarted the shield and everything works as it should.

My Shield connects to my NAS using smbv3 (I can see it connecting in the Synology log) and I've got  smb service 4.15.13-0877 in package center.

Maybe levels deep for the path, mine is

SERVERNAME\SharedName\Library Folders

I would assume if you can browse the shared folder from your Shield then you have permissions

All authorisations were/are given. The short path was somehow a flash of inspiration. It certainly didn't seem illogical to me - and it worked.

My problem isn’t pathing as they are already short. The pathing works. Just not big remux files. Yet in kodi and vlc they will play fine.

Have you set "logger buffer size" to 16MB in the developer options on the shield? It is said on the Internet that this would make the Exoplayer run much better. I have just played Blade II as a clean file with a bit rate of 71.1MB/s.

Yes, all my shields have buffer at 16.

Then I'm at my wit's end too. I strongly assume that you also operate the Shield directly via LAN?

Yes. Been trying for years to make it work right but never could. Mostly use kodi with a plug in so i can run the emby or plex server.

Surely it can't be that it works so easily for me. That it could be due to one shield would be understandable, but several at the same time - a defect is impossible.

In the past, when there was only Kodi with MySQL database, I had constant interruptions in the network. But that was fine. It then turned out that one of the data hard drives had a shot. And that kept causing my server to have network dropouts.

Is it possible to set up another computer with Emby and just a few Remux films on it and then test it again?

I know how to install a zip file on Kodi but for emby skin on Windows you must copy skin zip in a specific folder not install from a zip file.

Is it the same way on Kodi for Android ?

Thanks for your support and no thanks for your previous answer... and i'm sorry not to be so smart as you are (i'm joking of course...)

Hello,

during the installation of the 4k skin I get an error regarding xmbc.gui version 5.15.

Actually I use Kodi 21.1 on a shield tv 2019. I assume that the skin is not compatible with that kodi version. Is that correct?

Thanks.

Have you loaded the latest version?
