How to unlock Emby on Android Phone

Recommended Posts

I have a few servers set up with the same premiere key,  I'd like to keep my mobile from consuming 3 device licenses by unlocking the mobile app.

I've set up a new emby server (did not enter the premiere key, left my wifi network so it doesn't see my local premiere instance, wiped the app data and connected to the newly installed instance of emby server, but I am unable to locate the option to unlock the app.

Devices only consume one device slot per key.

The number of servers using that key is irrelevant.

Support via email disagrees with you on that one, back in May they told me the following:

If you have two servers active at once with the same key and a device access both of them, that will count as 2 devices against that key.

(ugh, mobile is preventing me from formatting this nicely...)

Is that correct? This was not my understanding, though it's been many years since I looked into this specifically.

/edit for clarity:

As far as I understood, each application installation (client) gets a unique ID. That ID doesn't change depending on which server it connects to. So the same application/ID connecting to multiple servers each with the same premier key is still only one device on that key.

Am I wrong here? Do devices get multiple device IDs depending on which server they connect to?

If they do; that should be made much clearer than it currently is in the premier ToS.

Regardless of the above answer,   I'd still like to verify which apps can be unlocked, the requirements to access the unlocking feature.  And whether or not unlocking the app stops it from consuming a device on my premiere license even if it needs to use hardware transcoding or live tv functionality.

Also, I saw it mentioned in previous forum posts that browsers and Samsung/LG/AppleTV apps don't consume device seats,  is this true?  If I use the PWA app on my mobile will it consume a seat on my premiere license?

Lastly, if I'm using a browser or mobile app to admin the server but don't play back any content will it consume a license seat, or does it only consume the seat when a premiere action happens?

According Emby Premiere Feature matrix, following:

Quote
Apps (iOS and Android) Free App Unlock Premiere
Limited Playback (one-minute only)

Full Playback

Apple Carplay/Android Auto
Apple Watch Support
Camera Upload
Offline Media
Live TV
Android TV or Fire TV Free App Unlock Premiere
Limited Playback (two week trial)

Full Playback

Live TV

Nope, app unlock only allows for Full playback - using any other Premiere feature takes a slot even if unlocked app.

For playback only.

I would assume latter.

Hi.  Where/when did you get that answer?

The same device attached to a server with the same key should only count once.

I noticed that the Android TV app shows the unlock option on the home screen under all the other options.  I don't think this is the case for the mobile app.  But, if browsers/apps don't count against the license numbers if they are used for admin purposes I won't need to worry about unlocking.

Okay, I apologize for that.  In that scenario, the device should only count once.  The database table has a unique index on device and key.
