Trailer Plugin

Hallo,

Hi, we are working on improving the quality of the trailers. Thanks for the feedback.

Und auf deutsch? Nur die Kombination macht es nutzbar.

Hi, we'll look into possible German trailer sources. Thanks.

6 Monate später und der Status ist leider unverändert. Einfach nur eine andere Source einstellen, wo genau liegt denn da das Problem?

HI, what legal source would you like?

But youtube require their content to be launched in their app so they have always been an issue.  Unless their TOS has changed.

Right but youtube is pretty much the only option so we're just going to have to do the best we can with it.

Okay then there will have to that big disclaim for all client/apps that it will not work on.  But think it is really limited to the just Roku, correct?

Hopefully just Roku yes.

IMG_9326.thumb.jpeg.7263356e7c15f76b1cea41b480de1fc5.jpegIMG_9325.thumb.jpeg.2fc67e431a90ab0f146cad8b2ebe44c3.jpegok

Yes as reported in other topics the source is 640x360.

And yes new trailers are all better quality on YouTube.  It just comed down to honoring their TOS as a client like the Roku is not allowed to launch youtube content outside of their app.  So now devs have to come up with ways if possible to launch and close another app from within their own app and if that platform will even allow it.

Also not sure how their ad system is going to work with them as a source also.

It just means you’ll see YouTube ads when playing a trailer. Sometimes at least.

I can already hear it now coming in multiple topics.  Why am I seeing YouTube ads on my Premiere Trailer Plugin?  Or even ads in my Cinema Intros.

I'm a little confused about the "Trailers" plugin anyhow, so I'll chime in here...

I don't have the plugin installed because I have things which report on the number of movies in the library, and I'm afraid the trailers plugin will add "trailers", which will make the API report them as "movies", or something.  Essentially, I'm afraid that if the plugin adds 500 trailers it will appear to my library count as though I have 500 more movies all of a sudden.  Is that a real concern?

Anywho...

The reason I'm chiming in here is because it would seem that if we had a plugin, let's call it "Local Trailers".... that simply indexed the trailers you had under "Trailers" folders within your media libraries (which is where they should normally be collected), that plugin could simply show them under the trailers tab?  People could manage their own sources for trailers, most of which come from bonus features on our disks anyway.

Does the current trailers plugin do anything at all with the trailers we have in our own media libraries?

Trailers themselve are a different type in the database as Movies are Type=5 and Trailers are Type=10 so they won't be confuse.

The plugin is about Theater Upcoming/Future trailers assuming the list is maintained for future as currently the majority of the items have already been released.  Everything in your library has already been released.

But from a Cinema Intro standpoint you have option for local or online trailers.

Ah, I hadn't even realized the Cinema Intros section was controlling that...  So does the Internet Trailers section of Cinema Intros rely on the "Trailers" plugin?  Otherwise, what's the point of the plugin?  Maybe the plugin should just be integrated into Cinema Intros and dump the plugin altogether?  I avoided them because I was always confused what the two did differently.

I was also confused because of all the back and forth about the quality of the trailers.  I couldn't help but wonder if the quality of the free (YouTube) stuff was an issue, why not just collect your own?  I hadn't even considered upcoming releases.

Thanks for the info.

Yes the Trailers plugin provides trailers for the Internet trailers section of Cinema Intros.

Otherwise you can just scroll the Plugin Trailers library and play the trailers you want.

Personally I try to get a trailer for every move I have and the URL provided via TMDB metadata assists with that.  But Collecting your own is a TOS issue also.

But no matter how you look at it from the plugin standpoint it is a list of trailers that someone has to maintain.  Youtube has never really been used as of their TOS but options are very limited on where this information can be gotten from.  So I can potentially AD issues in the near future.

It's even more confusing because the trailers you have in your library don't show up in the trailers tab...  And on the flip side, I don't have the plugin or internet trailers enabled in Cinema Intros, yet if I click the trailer button, it plays a YouTube trailers without the plugin.

It's all over the place, but it makes better sense now...  👍

The problem with YouTube's ads can also be avoided using appropriate ad blockers. With the right ones and several, you have the opportunity to watch without advertising, even without a subscription. With some addons this also works great with Kodi. But I also have YouTube Premium and that's why I think it's a shame that nothing has happened after such a long time. I love trailers, but with emby I had to turn it off because the picture was too horrible.

It's so strange to me, that after this many years, it's still not possible to use this plugin with the language that is set in Emby. Is it really that hard to add the language parameter to the TMDB api request to receive data in the right language for the user?

I would say off topics as there is no source for trailers that off different languages in reference to the Trailers plugin.

Since the Trailers plugin is being rewritten to use YouTube Trailers there maybe more options to come but have no idea how the new plugin will work or how YouTube controls this.

As for TMDB api you should be getting what ever language they have assign in your media queries per your set language.  But again OT and would need its own topics as that would be about metadata not Trailers.

But there are really NO FREE Trailer Sources out there so this really creates a issue for the Trailers Plugin and why they are working on using YouTube.

Only hope all the ADs don't come with it using that source.
