tstiegler 4 Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 Hi, Everything works fine for me with emby server except on thing: In Germany there are two TV shows named "Das Boot". These are two different series: 1) "Das Boot" 1985: 1 season, 6 episodes 2) "Das Boot" 2018: 4 seasons, 32 episodes in total (8, 8, 10, 6) I have put the media files in two different directories in a TV show library: 1) series/"Das Boot (1985) [tmdbid=156249]" 2) series/"Das Boot (2018) [tmdbid=83936]" After running the media library scanner everything is mixed in one TV show entry. Both series are "overlayed". The metadata is mixed. The 6 episodes of the 1985 series appear as "versions" of the first 6 episodes in season 1 of the 2018 TV show. Could somebody help me to put the shows as two separate series in the library? Thank you very much, Thomas
Neminem 1519 Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 Are you actual folder name "Das Boot (1985) [tmdbid=156249]" with " before and after ? Try removing those "
tstiegler 4 Posted November 21, 2023 Author Posted November 21, 2023 No, the quotion marks are only for separation in the text. Folder names are series/Das Boot (1985) [tmdbid=156249] series/Das Boot (2018) [tmdbid=83936] Thomas
pwhodges 2012 Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 Is this a mixed media type library? Are the episodes in a subfolder called "Season 01" ? Paul
tstiegler 4 Posted November 21, 2023 Author Posted November 21, 2023 Hi Paul, Media type is TV shows. The episodes are stored directly in the series folder. There are no sub folders for the different seasons. Thomas
arrbee99 1817 Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 I have those same items, though only one season of the 1985 version and they show up separately. I do use season (or series) folders.

arrbee99 1817 Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 Well, personally, I seem to use Series and Season interchangeably for UK / European and US programs respectively. I don't really get the American(?) distinction.
pwhodges 2012 Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 it's very simple: a series (or show) may have seasons which tell separate stories (or parts of a bigger story). In the UK, for no good reason, the seasons of a series are generally also called series... It saves trouble - instead of having to remember two words for two concepts, we simply use the same word for both - it saves thought! Paul

Edit: Assuming you have TVDB as top preferred provider (default for TV shows). 1. Remove both series folders from your TV shows root 2. Scan media library to clear the db 3. Delete existing NFOs, if any 4. Move TMDB on top of your preferred series providers 5. Put those series folders back 6. Scan media library 7. Lock the items 8. Revert TVDB on top TVDB doesn't list Das Boot (1985) as a series hence it cannot be identified as such, only TMDB does. Edited November 22, 2023 by GrimReaper

If the type had been mixed, then that would have clearly been the reason, as the Season folder is essential to enable Emby to distinguish series from movies. But that's not usually so important in a TV library. None the less, adding the Season folder layer is recommended. The other thing that occurs to me is that you could have the library setting on which allows merging parts of a series which are stored in different folders. It shouldn't be happening, of course, but if it were off, even two copies of the same show in different folders would be displayed separately (I have done that deliberately for different editions of the same show). tstiegler 4 Posted November 22, 2023 Author Posted November 22, 2023 Hi, Thanks for all the hints. I will try (using season sub folders and removing nfo's before re-scanning) and come back when I have results. Thomas 1
tstiegler 4 Posted November 22, 2023 Author Posted November 22, 2023 Hi, Removing the old nfo's does the trick. Furthermore, I have limited the library manager strictly to TMDB. Now I have two entries as expected. Thanks to everybody who has tried to help, Thomas. 1
