godfuture 5 Posted November 20, 2023 Posted November 20, 2023 Hi, I thought that auto quality setting is helping me to get the best suitable bitrate meeting my current connection. But my feeling tells me I am getting 1,5mBits all the time, even having fast wifi in local network. Why is auto bitrate going down to 1,5mbits? Even for internet connection this is quite low. I guess 5 or even 8 would be fine. In local network 10 or even why not direct play? Can I change config to achieve what I want? Thanks for any help

Auto on the local network always means max value. So this means that most likely, one of the following is true: It's not actually set to auto even though he thought it was Something about his network setup and/or network settings is preventing emby server from being able to distinguish a local connection vs a remote one.

I am using a reverse proxy and I think I am using the right http parameters such that Emby is still able to differ external and internal connections. I will check, if I can find official instructions to configure nginx accordingly and compare. But...I also noticed that even my private internet connection allows 50MBits upload, some external clients still get 4MBits transcode on auto. So I would say that in general the bitrate seems a little low on auto. Edited December 15, 2024 by godfuture

I justed tested it, and @Lukewas right. Internal connections are played with max bitrate. But low bitrate on external auto is also the case: Is the default bitrate configurable on server?
