On a 2016 Samsung Smart tv i got following error:

media player error code: PLAYER_ERROR_CONNECTION_FAILED, player state: IDLE

Can you take a photo?  That's not normally a message that the app shows.  Is it a popup message that shows for a few seconds then closes?

My guess is that you're trying to use a https connection which the TV likely won't have the necessary certificates to support.

Make sure you select either 'Disabled' or 'Preferred, but not required' on the server Network setting for Secure Connection Mode.

Then make sure you connect the app using http on port 8096

Tv is outside my network. Connects via https to port 443. iOS and Android devices connect without a problem. Certificate is handled by reverse proxy.

Then you need to make sure the reverse proxy is redirecting it to http only for the TV.  What CA are you using?  It is most likely not supported by the TV.
