Initial Setup Wizard Locking Up

Recommended Posts

I'm attempting to install Emby Server on my Windows 11 machine and the initial configuration wizard is freezing/locking up.  I'm seeing 2 specific instances.

  • At the Welcome to Emby screen, I'm prompted to select a language, if I select anything and click Next, I get the spinning status and that is as far as it gets.  If I leave that value blank, I can get to the account creation screen.
  • At the account creation screen, I enter in a username/password, click Next, and the same issue occurs; a spinning status and no farther.
  • After one of the above issues occurs, if I attempt to restart the wizard, I get generic page not found errors.  The only way to restart the wizard is to exit the application and restart it.

I checked the installation log and yikes that's a big block of text ending with Installation complete.  I have tried the setup with my anti-virus turned off, but the same issue occurs.  Any suggestions on how to complete the initial setup?

Emby 4.7.14

Hi, can you try clearing browsing data and seeing if that helps?

Clearing all browser data (all options checked and for All Time), gets me past the initial language check, but the same issue occurs when creating the first user.

For test purposes, have you tried using another browser (preferably Firefox as different engine or maybe MS Edge)?

The issue (locking up at user creation) occurs with Firefox and Edge on the same machine as well.

Can you supply the contents of the browser debug console? Thanks !

Also when this happens is the Embyserver.exe process still running?

After many, many, many Windows reinstalls, I have an update.  It's not a browser issue.  Embyserver.exe is crashing because of Intel ARC drivers.  I took a fresh install of Windows, installed Emby server and slowly started to install drivers and various pieces of software until I saw the issue in the browser.  The issue only starts after I install the ARC drivers.  On a fresh install, I watched Task Manager and sure enough, after the ARC drivers are installed, embyserver.exe crashes on startup.  I've included the embyserver.log file from a fresh install (only Emby), ARC v4953, and ARC v4887.  I've gone all the way back to ARC v4824, but it always stops at the same point:

Info Dx11VaCodecProvider: Start GetCodecList()

I swear I had this all working last year using the same hardware so I'm not sure why it wouldn't work now unless Windows 23H2 or Intel's mandatory A770 firmware upgrades did something.  Any suggestions?  More log files?  Ubuntu?

HI, yes this has been resolved in the upcoming 4.8 server release. If you want to try it, you can, but please wait until the next beta. The current one has a database error that needs to be resolved when updating from 4.7 to 4.8. Thanks.
