Santrex 7 Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 (edited) Hello. I have a strange problem with scanning One Network Directory: \\res.vgtrk\onewindow$\shares\_Программная дирекция I tried different ways to solve this problem. And I even tried using Another Emby Server, but I was not successful. Rights issued Correct. And when adding "Paths" I see directories and the ability to select them. The problem is that the Server “Ignores” and does not want to “Add” anything after “Library Scan”. For the “Test” I took the path with the Folder “Inside” of this Directory and Added it... \\res.vgtrk\onewindow$\shares\_Программная дирекция\АННА МЕДИУМ т_с And after the “Scanning” everything was “OK”. He immediately found all the Folders and All Files... I attached the log... I still don’t understand the reason. Maybe this is a problem with the "_" in the Folder name? But I have “Other paths” in which “Used” [_anyfolderpath] and everything is fine there. embyserver.txt Edited November 15, 2023 by Santrex
Santrex 7 Posted November 15, 2023 Author Posted November 15, 2023 I would also like to add... What "This folder" contains more than 280 - SubFolders. Could this be the reason that the EMBY Engine is simply not able to handle so many Elements?
GrimReaper 4742 Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 Have you tried mounting that network share as local drive and adding that as library path?
Santrex 7 Posted November 15, 2023 Author Posted November 15, 2023 Hmm... This is an interesting option... I'll try... BUT this does not answer the question "Reason" why?
ebr 16185 Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 Hi. Make sure there isn't a '.ignore' file in that folder.
Santrex 7 Posted November 15, 2023 Author Posted November 15, 2023 This file is not created “automatically”, is it? Well, you mean, Eli, I won’t put it down myself?

Luke 42080 Posted November 16, 2023 Posted November 16, 2023 The server is unable to access your network share: Quote System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: Could not find a part of the path '\\res.vgtrk\onewindow$\shares\_Волгоград\_БРАМ'. Why - well the answer to that is specific to your environment so there's no way for us to know that, but at a minimum I would make sure you can take the same path and use it in windows explorer. Does it work there?

Luke 42080 Posted November 16, 2023 Posted November 16, 2023 1 minute ago, GrimReaper said: What would be the exact reason? Windows will disconnect the mounted drive when idle and that will prevent the server from being able to access it.
GrimReaper 4742 Posted November 16, 2023 Posted November 16, 2023 Can't speak for anyone's particular setup, but I've bren running mounted drive under Windows for years and have never seen it disconnected once; granted, I don't let HDD spin down and my Win installation is running 24/7, but in my particular circumstances, with 20-30 "unknown" users/colleagues on my LAN, I much prefer that setup as opposed to having an anonymous share on the network. 1

Maybe it's not something that always happens, or maybe newer versions of windows don't even do it anymore. That advice has existed since MB2 and the early days of Emby, but it hasn't really been re-evaluated over time. But still, even when mapped drives work, they are still adding an extra layer of configuration, and the more layers you have the more things that could end up failing.
Santrex 7 Posted November 16, 2023 Author Posted November 16, 2023 We noticed some correlation with the growth of the "Structure" of folders and the fact that the "Library Scanner" simply "Ignores" it. Since this “Library” worked successfully before. And there were no problems. But over time, the "Structure" of the folders has grown... If you take and create a “Library” and add “Manually all 150 paths” to each folder, then the “Excellent” scanner will detect both Files and even all “Subfolders inside”. However, if you “Use” the root directory “Scanner” it just “Hangs”. This is far from the “First Case”. We are a large company and we have “Dozens of Libraries” and several “Thousands of Paths”. I don't know if this is a "built-in" protection mechanism. Perhaps this allows us to eliminate Emby "hanging" and problems when scanning "Complex data structures".

Santrex 7 Posted November 17, 2023 Author Posted November 17, 2023 Yes, I checked the availability of "Shares" first of all, from the Server where we found the problem. I also have a "Script" that collects the entire "Security Permission List" from all the "Folders" on the "File Server" so that I can check how they were assigned. And through Emby, when added, He also Sees it. (well, otherwise he wouldn’t have added it, right?) Emby is launched as a "Service" and runs under a Domain account. The account has permissions for all "Shares". 1
Tryout 0 Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 I was hoping to use Emby, but eventually gave up when it couldn't locate any videos in my Videos folder even after a scan. The Videos folder has subfolders for TV series and movies. If it's this hard to get Emby to see any data, then I don't need the hassle.

I tried to uninstall Emby and although the uninstall program says it succeeded. Emby still display in the Add/Remove programs list. So the uninstall seems buggy.

Also check that your file naming follows Emby's guidelines. There should be no hassle if you do it right. Paul
