Admin Account Lost Access

I haven't posted in a while because Emby has been working so well.

Today, I tried to remotely access my server and noticed I was logged out on my browser.  No big deal, I use a password manager.  When I tried to log in, it gave an error that my username and password were incorrect.  That has me a little worried.

I went through the process of connecting through a VPN to my home network resetting and creating the passwordreset.txt file.  When I try to log in after blanking the password, I get the same error.

Am I missing something?

What could cause it to just stop working?  The password is strong.  I can still log in to Jellyseer with the same credentials.

Any help is appreciated.

So I managed to fix this.

I have another hidden admin user that I also forgot the password for.  That reset worked and I was able to log in and change the password manually for my normal user.

Any thoughts as to why this would happen though?

ETA: Okay... not as 'fixed' as I thought.  I was able to log in to my accounts but none of the media is showing up.  I'm trying to reboot my whole server to see if that fixes the issue.

ETA2: So the server reboot did not fix the media issue.  I can confirm that all of the media is still there at the path that Emby is looking for.  Weirdly... my home videos and music are still showing up.  Just Movies and TV libraries are empty/blank.  The missing media is on the same share as the music and home videos. Scratching my head on this.

Your are on windows, right ?

Did you have an windows auto update ?

Is your network set to private ?

Is your media files on windows or nas ?

I'm running an Unraid server. Emby is running in a Docker container.

I've been using this same setup for years. Not sure what could have happened. I'm away from home, so have limited access to the server.

Ok, what server version ?

Can you do a parity check of your array ?

It might be an failing disk, depending on your array setup.

Can you browse the library that missing ?

Or might be a fluck, can you scan the movie / tv library again ?

And see if they show up again.

4.7.14.0

The array seems fine but I've started a parity check.

Everything indicates it's healthy.

Yeah, I can see and interact with all of the files.

Let me see if I can prompt it to rescan from my phone.

What was the initial issue with the password reset process? Was it that you forgot your username? That's a common thing that happens when users think the password reset process is not working. The password did get reset, but they've also forgotten their username.

So I knew usernames, and that part worked.  It properly created the passwordreset.txt file for my admin account.  But then after I blanked out the password, I still got the login error.  The weird thing is that I keep my username and password in a password manager.  It hasn't changed. Once I used a second account to fix it, all of my media was missing.

I spent some time troubleshooting but couldn't figure it out. I rolled the container back to a backup from a few days ago, reset the password again and every thing is fine now.

Is it possible that something just got corrupted?

Well unless you can get it to happen again then I think at this point there's no way to know.

Let's hope it doesn't.

If I had been home, I would have done some more troubleshooting but it was just easier to roll it back remotely.

Hope it was just a fluke.
