pgriffith 88 Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 Hey all Is there any way to delete all Collections and then let Emby recreate them? The reason I ask is I have many collections with duplicate movies in them and even movies that should not be in them. For example, The Guardians of the Galaxy collection has 7 items in it. Two copies of 1, 2 & 3 and a Russian movie called Guardians, and it's missing the Holiday Special. Other collections also have duplicates as well, it's more often than not that the duplicates are the most recent addition to the collection. Eg Top Gun Maverick was duplicated, but not always (see pic of Expendables Collection) I did have an old Collections folder in the C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\data directory that I gathered was used for the old plugin as it hadn't been updated for a long time. So I renamed that in case it was conflicting with the new "built-in" collections system, but it has made no difference after several full library scans. So, can it be done?
Luke 42081 Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 Hi, you can delete collections using regular deletion methods, including multi-select. But in doing so there is nothing that will trigger the server to automatically recreate them. If you want that to happen, you'll need to refresh the metadata on the movies that the collections belong to - at least one movie from each of them.
pgriffith 88 Posted November 10, 2023 Author Posted November 10, 2023 Hi Luke, thanks for your very fast reply. That sounds very tedious, I might just try that on some that I know have duplicates in them and see how I go. I'll delete the Expandables one and see what happens. Sounds like a refresh collections option needs to be added somewhere .... good Dev 1
Luke 42081 Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 Also some third party community plugins are known to create duplicate entries in the database in order to achieve their objective.
pgriffith 88 Posted November 10, 2023 Author Posted November 10, 2023 Do you know what some of those third-party plugins are so I can see if I'm using any of them? I tried your suggestion. I deleted the Expendables collection and did a metadata refresh on the first movie, no collection was created. Refreshed the 2nd movie and a collection was created, but the only movies in it are the two I refreshed. Did a full library scan and still only two movies in it. So I think your suggestion to scan at least one movie from each of them is incorrect, looks like every movie needs to be refreshed. This makes clearing them and recreating them an incredibly tedious and time-consuming process, I've over 50 collections in my library.
Luke 42081 Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 Quote So I think your suggestion to scan at least one movie from each of them is incorrect, looks like every movie needs to be refreshed. It depends on what metadata is in your library. If the movies already have the collection information in the database, then what I said will be true. So maybe they don't. The multi-select tool can help you refresh metadata in bulk.
Luke 42081 Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 Quote Do you know what some of those third-party plugins are so I can see if I'm using any of them? There's two or three. I don't remember to be honest. Maybe watch history is one of them? If you attach a server log I can see if one of your installed plugins rings a bell.
pgriffith 88 Posted November 10, 2023 Author Posted November 10, 2023 Emby Server log attached. embyserver-63835232980.txt
Luke 42081 Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 Yea you've got the watch history plugin installed, so I would remove that and restart the server. Please see if that helps.
pgriffith 88 Posted November 10, 2023 Author Posted November 10, 2023 I've uninstalled it, I'll see how things go moving forward, I'm guessing anything that's not currently right will remain so, and wont be magically fixed. Is the dev of that plugin aware of the issues it's causing? 1
