leebo 12 Posted November 5, 2023 Posted November 5, 2023 My HDD on my server died recently, and I had to replace it and install my apps. My media in on another drive, and I have not made any changes to it. After installing Emby, setting it up, and scanning my libraries, it's mostly working. However it is missing some metadata and more importantly, at least one of my TV shows. I haven't changed the location of my media, other than this: My media drive is a virtual Stablebit drive that I have added more storage to. But as far as Emby is concerned, it's all the same drive. I have checked the folder of the show but don't see any reason for it to be invisible to Emby. I have not checked for other missing shows because I figure if some more are missing it would likely be the same issue. Also, the metadata. WTF? What should I check?
Luke 42081 Posted November 6, 2023 Posted November 6, 2023 Hi there, can you please provide a specific example? How are your files named and organized? How to Report a Problem Thanks.
leebo 12 Posted November 6, 2023 Author Posted November 6, 2023 (edited) Hey Luke. Server ver. 4.7.14.0 The long answer is: Exactly the same as they have been for almost ten years. I only lost my "C" system drive. I think that's the default location for Emby metadata, right? BTW, after about 20 hours, more TV show images are showing up, so maybe this is a slow refresh issue. But I have 169 movies, and only two have metadata images so far. Shorter answer: Folder TV Shows/show name/ Season1, Season 2, etc., Episode name S01E01. Gilgamesh_48 1240 Posted November 6, 2023 Posted November 6, 2023 (edited) FWIW: The last time i had to rebuild my system because of a loss of the boot drive, about a year and a half ago, I noticed a delay of about three days before it appeared that everything had been completed. I store my metadata and bif files with my media so I thought that should speed things up but I have been told since that does not really make things faster. I saw that all scans seemed to stop after the first several hours but the data continued to populate for several days. It seems that the advantages of storing data with the files does not make things faster. However I did not have to go in later and fix matches that i had to before as that seemed to stick. I like having the data with my files but it does not seem to have much advantages for scanning and it does not really seem to help overall operation much. I would suggest just waiting for a couple of days to see what is actually happening. If you have a moderately large or very large database it just takes time to build or rebuild the database. So we wait and Wait and WAIT and WAIT. Edited November 6, 2023 by Gilgamesh_48
rbjtech 5284 Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 (edited) As per the many posts on this subject, it really depends on what you are asking emby to do with on the rebuild. I have shown previous examples of a complete rebuild (identified and playable files) in 15 minutes (for 2K items), but then identifying 'People' takes another 2 hrs or so. If I were to then tag on 'Intro' detection for TV series - it's another task that takes a long time, same with BIF files (thumbnails) that are not kept locally - these will all need to be regenerated. Depending on your internet speed, having metadata available may make no difference at all. The BEST way to do a rebuild - is turn off all the optional features on the library, get the rebuild done quickly, THEN add back all the intro's, thumbnails etc At this time, Emby is not smart enough to re-priotise the scanning - it does it sequentially one item at a time - and this is likely not what the users want. They would prefer to see all their media 'available' ASAP - even if it's missing Thumbnails and Intro's - and then it goes back to the start, and builds the optional items afterwards in the 'background'. Solution leebo 12 Posted November 7, 2023 Author Solution Posted November 7, 2023 Solved: Folder permission issue. I had to click on each folder, wherein I would get an error "You don't have permission to access this folder. Click to gain permanent access..." Apparently I had clicked on my TV folder several days ago, but not my other folders. Thanks everybody! 1
