Radi0chik 0 Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 So I read some other threads about Emby server creating temp files that fills the drive up. Mine is doing the same, however I'm ONLY using this to stream live tv. There's no DVR setup, nothing. Just live streaming. I found the temp dir for metadata, and some of the folders were from Oct 1. Is there any way to automatically delete these every day/night? I had another buffering issue I was going to ask about, but when I came in to find the log files, I saw the drive was full. Thank you in advance

Radi0chik 0 Posted November 1, 2023 Author Posted November 1, 2023 Sorry. From two different users/Roku units.
Luke 42080 Posted November 1, 2023 Posted November 1, 2023 When you stop playback, how are you stopping?
Radi0chik 0 Posted November 1, 2023 Author Posted November 1, 2023 hmm. The back arrow on the roku remote. Back to the main emby page.

Perhaps the encoding of the theme video does not support direct playback, so it was transcoded. However, it seems that the transcoding file corresponding to the transcoding temp has not been deleted, or will it be automatically deleted after a period of time? Radi0chik 0 Posted November 2, 2023 Author Posted November 2, 2023 I'm not positive, no. Obviously I'm new to this. What's the best way to stop live streaming? I'm willing to make new habits if it doesn't fill up my hd
ebr 16185 Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 On the Roku it is important to NOT exit a playing stream by using the home button because that platform does not notify the app that it is being shut down - it just kills it. So then it is left to the server to try and figure out that the app went away - which it should but is a point of possible failure. So, be sure to use the back arrow and wait till the stream actually stops to exit the app.
Radi0chik 0 Posted November 2, 2023 Author Posted November 2, 2023 Thank you! I will delete the temp folder today and try this going forwards. That logic makes sense. I appreciate the help!
Radi0chik 0 Posted November 2, 2023 Author Posted November 2, 2023 So I tested it for a while, tuned to a channel and let it play. I currently now have 42 folders in the metadata temp folder. I had 0 when I cleaned it out 45 minutes ago. The ORIGINAL reason I was going to post here, was, that I can be streaming a channel live (it doesn't matter which one, they all do it) and it will glitch, and instantly "rewind" approximately 30 seconds. Then it plays the last 30 seconds at least once, if not 2 or 3 times. The location I'm streaming from has 50m up/down fiber, and I have the roku emby app set to 4mbps 1080. I've tried dumbing the feed down to tiny bandwidth, and it doesn't seem to make a difference. There is no other current internet usage at the streaming site (nobody else using upload or download from that feed). I'm wondering if this may be part of the reason I'm getting these temp files? I can take a cell phone video recording of what the screen looks like if this helps. This would have been my original question, had I not noticed the HD was full, and thought maybe that was the problem. Nope, it does it with an empty temp folder. Should I make a new thread with this info?
Scott D 69 Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 I have been having this same issue for years. The problems you have described are ones I too have on a regular basis. When playing Live TV, I also get the buffering just after starting a stream and a repeat of the prior 30 seconds or so. All most ever session. I also have temp files that will quickly get out of hand if not dealt with on a regular basis. Several months ago, I was pointed in the direction of a plug-in called "Server Restart" currently using version 1.0.0.0. What it does is allow you to schedule a restart of your server. This will clear the temp files from the transcode temp directory. I have found a few times per week (based on HD size) should be sufficient to keep from filling a drive. I have mine set for 3:00 am twice per week when typically the only thing that would be playing is a stream accidentally left open. While stopping with the HOME button on a Roku will create issues, I have found that to not be the only reason the temp files will remain. I have in the past had log files that show the STOP command being issued and received, yet temp files will remain. Give yourself the peace of mind by installing the "Server Restart" plug-in and then you can all but forget about the temp files. About once a month, I take a look at the temp directory since there will be some left over folders with nothing in them that will remain. 2
Neminem 1519 Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 I had the same problem some years ago. Since moved to Unraid OS. But here is what it did to clean up my transcoding temp files. It might help you

Neminem 1519 Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 The script is a ps script, so it should work on a windows server. If you want to use it But as @Scott D said, that should work to.

Since you're on the beta server, can you please re-evaluate with 4.8.0.65? You may not need all these workarounds anymore.
Scott D 69 Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 I am not running the Beta version. Still on 4.7.14.0 I will let you know once a new version comes out. 1
