Can't Connect Through Web

Recommended Posts

I can connect from all apps (iOS, theater, Roku) but the web app simply won't connect. I get an error to make sure that the server is running. I've even deleted my virus protection entirely just to see if that was somehow it. What's weird is that if I go to the IP address directly then I can get in, but if I log into app.emby.media then I get an error message

Any thoughts?

Your browser is likely force redirecting to https with your server not having SSL setup, make sure your browser address bar states http://app.emby.media, not https://app.emby.media (you might need to manually drop "s" from "https").

You're using Chrome, I guess, and connecting via app.emby.media.  Lots of topics on this over the past week since Chrome's behaviour became more aggressive - trying to force https when its not appropriate.

So what should I do to use Chrome?

Choose between these options:

  • Setup https for your emby server
  • Make sure to use the http version of the hosted web app - http://app.emby.media . Chrome is aggressively redirecting so you may have to manually correct it a few times but it does seem to eventually remember and stop doing that.
  • Use the web app built into your emby server via your ip address

Setup https for your emby server

How do I do this?

By the way, why I can't open the server by using localhost:8096 from my phone while connected to the same LAN?

Hi.  Because "localhost" is a shortcut for the machine the browser is on and the server is not on your phone.

I was able to access the server locally from my phone using my local IP address:

192.168.101.XXX:8096

And I was able to access the server remotely by using the external IP address:

XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:8096

All this without using the app.emby.media address, however, I'm trying to use a host setup at noip.com but it's a little hard to make it work, I already setup the router with it but still not success.

There are many ways you could do this, but here is one:

Right, the convenience of app.emby.media is that it's one url for the browser that never changes.

When you connect directly to your server, you may have to change the url in the browser depending on where you're connecting from.
