libussa 3 Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Currently, when attempting a password reset from the server, we see this screen: When doing the same from https://app.emby.media , we get redirected to https://emby.media/community/index.php?/lostpassword to reset the Emby connect password. This is bringing confusion to users; when entering either the Connect email or the username on the server reset screen, we get an error message "Please try again within your home network to initiate the password reset process." The server should detect that it's an email associated with Connect, and redirect the user to the password reset form instead. The reset screen could look something like this:
GrimReaper 4745 Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 (edited) Not sure what you're asking here, since Connect password and local user passwords are different credentials. As server is unaware of Connect password - if that one should be changed, it's done externally, on emby.media domain, not server-side. Local user password can only be changed locally. libussa 3 Posted October 24, 2023 Author Posted October 24, 2023 you can create a user without a password, and then use Connect. Then you can login with your connect credentials, from the server URL. So it would make sense that you could also reset your (Connect) password. I'm not saying the server should do the reset (it can't, as you said), but it should at least redirect to the community reset page (or display a message with a link), instead of the cryptic error message.
GrimReaper 4745 Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Or simply prevent login with Connect credentials via server URL, else what's the point of Connect if using/knowing server address? Tbh, never it occurred to me to test that, login locally with Connect credentials, likely due to the same reason of what would be be the purpose? But I get your meaning now, thanks.
libussa 3 Posted October 24, 2023 Author Posted October 24, 2023 the point of Connect (for me) is to have an email password reset function. Don't remove the login via server URL function, I like it

The users should know which one they are using, and when you first grant them access to your server you should tell them which one to use based on how you gave them access.
