ebr 16169 Posted November 13, 2014 Author Posted November 13, 2014 Okay, then yeah, what I had suspected is what is happening. WMC is interpreting that as a 4:3 screen and laying it out accordingly. I know there are issues with some screens in 4:3 mode but I'm not willing to compromise the design just for those issues. Thanks for pointing it out though so we'll know if someone else encounters it.
ebr 16169 Posted November 14, 2014 Author Posted November 14, 2014 237 is up with a complete re-write of the image caching in MBC. It was way too complex before and I have simplified it greatly. Perhaps it will mean some small performance increase as well but I doubt it. Hopefully, it will mean the end of the strange caching issues that were occurring. I'd really appreciate it if as many people as possible could run this dev version and be sure there are no inadvertent repercussions. I'd like to get a beta out this weekend. Thanks. 1
Latchmor 584 Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Hi @@ebr, just had a browse around every folder in my library and it rebuilt the views as I entered each folder, it all happened pretty fast. All good
ebr 16169 Posted November 14, 2014 Author Posted November 14, 2014 Thanks, Latch. Yeah, I guess I should have mentioned that you will notice some slowdown as images are all re-cached as you first enter each area.
SikSlayer 249 Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Is there a way to force cache it all or is that besides the point? Gonna try it in a second.
ebr 16169 Posted November 14, 2014 Author Posted November 14, 2014 Is there a way to force cache it all or is that besides the point? Gonna try it in a second. Not sure what you mean. The cache will be cleared out the first time you run this version and then it will re-build as necessary.
ronvp 92 Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 it took a little bit to refresh all the artwork, but 237 appears to work well and is very responsive
SikSlayer 249 Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Not sure what you mean. The cache will be cleared out the first time you run this version and then it will re-build as necessary. What I'm asking is that instead of being done as necessary, it all could be done at once in advance. But no matter, its so fast I don't even notice it on my HTPC. Great job.
ebr 16169 Posted November 15, 2014 Author Posted November 15, 2014 Okay I have promoted 237 to Beta so we'll see what the larger group discovers. Thanks all for the preliminary testing.
Xzener 729 Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 (edited) Has anyone ever encountered a movie that refused to play in MBC... No matter what format?? Transformers Age of Extinction will not play, Bluray rip or MKV. Very odd. XBMB3C plays it just fine (as an MKV). Edited November 23, 2014 by Xzener
Redshirt 1487 Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 I've had it happen with several movies. 99% of MBC playback issues are codec related. For that very reason I use MBT almost exclusively because using the internal player and not mucking with codec settings... everything plays.
Xzener 729 Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Yes, but MBT hates my formats (folder rips). Guess it's time to convert.
Redshirt 1487 Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Keep in mind my solution isn't for everyone. There are users on the forum that swear MBT can't play a thing. I disagree with it, but everyone gets free speech here
Xzener 729 Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 (edited) Ugh... I need to get a hold of @@tobias-tobin and hopefully come up with some kind of script/batch file to convert all my folder rips to MKV... I feel sick. Edited November 23, 2014 by Xzener
Redshirt 1487 Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 If your looking to stream to any set-top or Android/Apple etc clients converting to mp4/h264/aac is the better alternative 1

I need to get a hold of @@tobias-tobin and hopefully come up with some kind of script/batch file to convert all my folder rips to MKV... I feel sick. Try XMedia Recode, it can pretty much batch convert anything and as far as I can tell, it can handle folder rips (have not tried it). Interface takes a little to get used to, but for the rest it really works well. Get it here: http://www.xmedia-recode.de/en/index.html I decided a while back to batch convert al my MKV's to MP4's (using XMedia-recode), I left h-264 video unchanged, but converted audio to AAC takes about 8 -12 minutes per movie if you are only dong the audio conversion Edited November 24, 2014 by ronvp

Xzener 729 Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 (edited) Ronvp, Do you own Transformers Age of Extinction?? I am curious what format you may be using to playback in MBC. I converted my BD rip to MKV... Still won't play. Edited December 4, 2014 by Xzener
bigjohn 753 Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Xzener, what codecs are you using with MBC? Since I switched to LAV last year and used the winfiltertweaker app to set codec priority I haven't had a problem with any file (including my h264 rip of Age of Extinction).
ebr 16169 Posted December 6, 2014 Author Posted December 6, 2014 241 is up. It just makes a change to not try and show any watched indicators or unwatched counts on special folders like indexes by actor or year, etc. as I think this may be the root of some people's performance woes with those items.
MrWebsmith 598 Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 i know this was "designed" for those views with larger libraries.. ill grab 241 and see how it handles my stuff..

Transformers Age of Extinction will not play, Bluray rip or MKV. Very odd. XBMB3C plays it just fine (as an MKV). Which version of XBMC played it just fine? I couldn't get Gotham to play Transformers AoE or Expendables 3, but they played just fine in Helix I know that nevcairel already updated LAV audio to handle those atmos tracks, but if your codecs aren't updated then it will probably fail (just like the Gotham version of ffmpeg was failing on decode for the TrueHD atmos track in those movies for me) 1
