[Transcode] Selecting the secondary audio track

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hello,

I don't know if I'm in the right section of the forum.

What does the "Selecting the secondary audio track" transcoding mean ?

(And I don't understand why the transcoding bar is stuck.)

Hi, it's not stuck.

Anyway this means you selected a secondary audio track, and the only way it can be played is with some transcoding.

Ah, so if it's not the main audio track that's chosen then there's transcoding?

The audio tracks are not necessarily encoded the same way - so one might be OK to direct play, but the other might need decoding.

Yes, I can understand that. But in my case, the 2 audios available for this particular media have the same codec and channel.

That doesn’t matter. What matters is that it’s secondary.

I was just responding to pwhodges.

But I don't understand what a secondary track is. Hence my question:

Any track after the first.

Why does that make a difference that requires transcoding?  At the worst I would understand direct streaming with the second audio being placed in first position...

Because there’s no way to tell chrome or chromecast to play the secondary audio track, so it can only be accomplished with transcoding.

Or repackaging, surely?  That's what I expected.
