Emby proxy error (crashing?)

Hello ,

First of All thank you for your amazing works on Emby as I know you probably just receiving complains, issues and reminders .. but hey not all people are blind I always wonder how hard it is to build such application and keep it smooth.. it's just amazing. Thank you!

My issue has started few weeks ago and I will do my best to explain it as it's driving me crazy and I have no idea why it's happening. Not even sure is it Emby issue or something els.

Every few days I find Emby crashed and throwing proxy error (screenshot is attached)

trying to restart it or re-upadting to latest release multiple times would fix it but with light reset to (welcome to Emby page) and the server name being changed to some code name and some deleted plugins are reinstalled like DLNA, webhook... Everything els is just the same. (screenshot is attached) this is happening everytime Emby crashes with that proxy error. Even if it was after one minute. (Maybe because I'm updating instead of restarting?) The issue is, restarting is not sufficient to get Emby back online after the prox error.

other side affect I'm no longer able to watch my high end contents ( 70,000 kbps bitrate ) as emby crashing after few minutes of playing (on Sony Android TV) by crashing I mean spinning to blackscreen then throwing me back to the home screen in Emby while the server itself is running (no proxy error). This wasn't an issue ever for one year till recently.

My friends on their ipads are no longer able to watch anything in the server as the videos just keeps spinning without ever playing to them. Only on iPad - ios 16 and latest emby version. I end up deleting those friends because if they kept trying all my server is crashing with that proxy error again.

Finally,  after any crash with proxy error I will find more than 100 logs being generated within few minutes. At some point I found 478 logs.

So it's very difficult to choose what to attach but I will attach the logs before the crash, during and after.

Hi, Emby isn't throwing a proxy error, it's throwing a general 500 error due to this:

Whatever you have in front of Emby Server (Ubuntu server?), reverse proxy, etc, may be interpreting it as that, but I'm not sure. 

Can you try rebooting your machine?

Would you please elaborate on this, do you think the issue is related to whatever I have front emby

excuse my complete ignorant on this but during this error is emby supposed to be accessible locally? Or it's completely crashing because of it and causing all these logs within few minutes.

The server is not in my country but I have VNC access to control that server,  never occurred to me till now to check if it's running locally.

This looks like an internal error. I don't think what you have in front of Emby matters unless it's somehow hammering Emby with traffic. Is this a VM?

It's a dedicated seedbox without root access, all setup are done by the provider and they were unable to find any issues at their end.

If you feels this is not related to emby and caused by something else then I have to refer back to the provider but not sure what to tell them or what to highlight on this issue.

Are you able to try a fresh install, making sure to delete the data folder /config

For now I have removed my friends who are using the iPad application because they cause this error everytime they try to play something and removed my flaresolver application because it seems related somehow.

Will test for few days and see how it goes.

Found the reason to be my friends with iPads.

Wonder why, all other devices are OK.

The issue is when they try to watch anything it's just keeps spinning without ever being played. If they kept trying they will cause this proxy error while at my end the video is playing normaly to them.

I tried to block transcoding in their profile and they did uninstalled Emby and try again but nothing changes.

They are on iOS 16.

Using the website is fine it's just the application.

I already tried with and without these options.

However my proxy error didn't happen for days now so I'm guessing the issue is more complicated and not directly related to Emby. Just hope it's never happen again.

Just to update my issue for your reference.

Root cause of this error : wrong configuration or corruption in another application (flaresolverr)

Which was using the same front as Emby (reverse proxy)

That application was hammering the traffic and causing a carsh to all applications using the same front.

in emby's logs will be mentioned as (system out of memory) as you highlighted in previous comment.
