Mikayla09 2 Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 Hello, I have a weird one. I've been using emby 2+ years and all of sudden I am unable to connect to my server remotely via Chrome browser. I have tried on multiple Windows PC and via my android phone through Chrome browser and I just get "unable to connect to the selected server right now. Please ensure it is running and try again" The Server is running and I am able to get on from the local computer running the server. As well as through all my emby apps on all various devices. Now here is where it gets weird. I tried to use Edge and it allows me to sign in. So I thought it was a Chrome issue but I still get the same error when I try and log into my second server that runs offsite. So I am at a loss. I've gone through a lot of troubleshooting and still nothing. - I have tried reinstalling emby on top of current installation. - I have checked port forwarding and canyouseme.org can see me - I checked all my firewall settings on both the pc sunning Emby server and the one I'm using to try and emby connect with. - I even tried turning off both firewalls just to elimate them being issue - I deleted and re-did port forwarding rules - I removed and reconnected the email associated with emby connect. I'm at a loss and would really appreciate any help, guidance, or suggestions to get this to work again like it had be working for 2 years and no changes were made on my part.

GrimReaper 4740 Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 Do you have SSL setup on your server?
GrimReaper 4740 Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 In that case you should use http://app.emby.media (drop the "s" from "https"). 1
Mikayla09 2 Posted October 17, 2023 Author Posted October 17, 2023 I tried that and it just keeps rerouting me back to the "https"
Solution GrimReaper 4740 Posted October 17, 2023 Solution Posted October 17, 2023 That means that Chrome is likely force redirecting to https, quick Google search should offer few solutions to circumvent that.
Mikayla09 2 Posted October 17, 2023 Author Posted October 17, 2023 It looks like that was it. I don't know why that never occurred to me to look for thus type of redirect. Thanks for your help. 1
Mikayla09 2 Posted October 17, 2023 Author Posted October 17, 2023 Just kidding this worked on only one machine that was running windows 10. Despite all my efforts in the things googled still doesn't work on my phone or windows 11 boxes. Can't even get to the http version of the site no matter what I do. Is there possibly a work around for this that you can think of?
GrimReaper 4740 Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 Sorry, no. I don't use Win11, don't use Chrome and don't use unencrypted http connection - I'd know about it just as much as I could read on Google. Maybe some fellow user with same/similar setup might offer some insight.
Luke 42078 Posted October 17, 2023 Posted October 17, 2023 What I do to force http is click into the browser address bar, then click at the beginning of the url so that it shows https, change that to http and press enter. Does this help?
Mikayla09 2 Posted October 18, 2023 Author Posted October 18, 2023 Luke - I tried this as well and it just keeps rerouting back to https. I was able to get both of my servers working via a different browser on my phone however when I try the same thing with both Edge and Firefox I can get into the local server but not the remote server. Even though both browsers say non secure http.

Mikayla09 2 Posted October 18, 2023 Author Posted October 18, 2023 Correct they stayed http. They both allowed me to log into the server on my home network no problem. But when I try to change server to the server I have a different location I get the same error message "unable to connect to the selected server right now please ensure that it is running and try again" I remote desktopped into the PC running this server and can get in just fine. As well as through my android phone through the internet browser it let's me switch back and forth.

What if you just put the address directly into the browser address bar?
Mikayla09 2 Posted October 18, 2023 Author Posted October 18, 2023 Luke - So I would say this works kind of. If I put the remote WAN address in it opens right up. However if I try this the same way with the local server it doesn't work. But it works with the emby connect np as long as I don't use Chrome. But can't switch back and forth between servers as the remote one doesn't work through emby connect even though the ip address matches what I'm putting in directly.
Luke 42078 Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 Quote However if I try this the same way with the local server it doesn't work. So you're on the same network as the server and trying to use the remote address? This may not work if your router doesn't allow/support loopback.

Mikayla09 2 Posted October 18, 2023 Author Posted October 18, 2023 Luke - can't say I have done this before so I'm hoping the attached is correct if not let me know. console-export-2023-10-18_0-0-4.txt
Mikayla09 2 Posted October 18, 2023 Author Posted October 18, 2023 Don't ask me why but it appears to be working in Firefox as of now. I was able to sign into both servers using Emby connect amd switch back and forth like I did before. Still can't get to the remote server via Edge. Of course Chrome is still being special with all the https redirects, but I think I'm good if I switch to Firefox for now (that is until is decides to stop on its own again lol)
Mikayla09 2 Posted October 18, 2023 Author Posted October 18, 2023 No. But I am using a VPN which I think might have been the culprit.
