A web app on https is not allowed to communicate with an http-based url. That means you either need setup https for your emby server, or you need to use the http web app. Does that make sense? how do i accomplish either of these things? a step by step would be fantastic as nothing is making sense other tutorials do not accomplish what they claim.

There's lots of ways you could setup an SSL certificate, but here is one: Or using the http version of the hosted web app at http://app.emby.media - Please note, the browser may aggressively redirect you to the https version, so you may have to change a browser setting to stop that. Or a third option, use an installed Emby app instead such as Windows, android, iOS, macOS, etc.
Psychoticinsane 7 Posted December 19, 2023 Author Posted December 19, 2023 so basicaly after paying a lifetime license to emby, i need to pay more money to another company just to use what ive already paid for? id rather just not have emby use https at all. is this possible? since chrome doesnt allow disusing https. i hate edge browser but looks like ill be forced to use that

If you don't want to setup https then your best option is using an installed Emby app. Since you're on Windows, this is your best bet: https://emby.media/emby-theater.html

No. Just use one of the free options, like accessing your server directly instead of using app.emby.media, or configuring your browser so that it works with app.emby.media: Or you can get a domain name free if you look around, and it's trivial to get a certificate for free. Hi, what writeup exactly do you think is outdated?
hapylestat 10 Posted December 19, 2023 Posted December 19, 2023 if emby is used inside home network, why bother with app.emby.media domain? just access it by: - ip name directly - or on your router create DNS entry type A for a PC with Emby Server - or modify hosts file on client devices 1 is easy to do, 2 and 3 could be googled or asked from ChatGPT
hapylestat 10 Posted December 19, 2023 Posted December 19, 2023 + For advanced users: - generate self-signed ssl certificates, install one part on the server for https, another part add on clients to the trust store, so they would be accepted by browsers - this would require some domain to exists, or self configured domain on the router/dns server
