MacGyver27 20 Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 Hello, I need to migrate Emby server to a new instsance, will it be a proble to add premiere to the new instance while it is still active on the old one? Thanks!

No. You can add same Premiere key to as many servers you'd like. Note that Premiere devices limit (standard license carries a 25 devices limit) is cumulative across all your servers using same Premiere key. Is there a limit to Emby Premiere? MacGyver27 20 Posted October 10, 2023 Author Posted October 10, 2023 I have seen this but I did not understand it in this way.. Anyway why would you put such a big instance server count for single account? Thanks!

MacGyver27 20 Posted October 10, 2023 Author Posted October 10, 2023 What does `standard license carries a 25 devices limit` actually mean? I pay 1 license, I should be able to use it on just 1 device right? When I pay e.g. for Eset antivirus, I had to manually specify how many devices it will simultaneously be used on.. and the price increased. In other words you can use single license for 25 different server instances?
GrimReaper 4745 Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 (edited) Yes, but I have a feeling you're misunderstanding what does Device limit mean. Premiere key is tied to a server (or servers). Device limit is the number of devices (clients) that can use Premiere features on single Premiere key. You can have 1 server or 5 servers (or any arbitrary number of them) - with same Premiere key, it is the number of devices using Premiere features connected to them that counts (devices are tracked for abt. a week). 1 server with 25 devices or 5 servers with 5 devices each or 1 server with 15 devices and 2 servers with 5 devices each - I reckon you get the point, number is cumulative. The more active servers you have - more likely you'll eventually hit that limit. Edited October 10, 2023 by GrimReaper
MacGyver27 20 Posted October 10, 2023 Author Posted October 10, 2023 Thanks for taking the time with me on this! I understand it now. I transitioned from the Plex environment so it was bit confusing to me. So server itself chooses to which 25 devices it will grant premium features? Can administrator somehow restrict it per user or users device? Havent seen anything in the server management under devices section.. just to remove/rename.

It will be first 25 devices that use Premiere feature(s), after which they're tracked for abt. a week and eventually drop off the list if Premiere features unused. You can check what does fall-in under Premiere fetures here: Emby Premiere Feature Matrix 1 hour ago, MacGyver27 said: Can administrator somehow restrict it per user or users device? That is not something that is exposed to the end user as Devs have certain concerns about security/privacy issues related (though I'm positive large number of users would like that policy to be reviewed and same info exposed). You can only limit type/number of devices user(s) can connect from (but not knowing whether they are actually using Premiere features and counting against your limit or not); then again, if you restrict it to certain type/number of devices you can be sure you won't hit it.
