mbc0 68 Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 Hi, few week old installation, everything running as expected apart from the library scans which last for days and get to 90% - 90.3% I cannot see anything obvious in the logs (but I am no expert) would I need to submit a huge debug log? TIA
pwhodges 2012 Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 If you have set for video preview thumbnails to be generated at 10sec intervals, and for intro detection to be run on series, then these can take a huge amount of time. It is recommended for those jobs to be set to run as separate scheduled tasks rather than when media is added. Of course, they will still take a long time, but will not interfere with the completion of other tasks, especially if those scheduled tasks are not enabled at all until the initial scan is completed. mandj 0 Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 Thank you for your reply, This is my current config, so if I set a scheduled library scan with a time limit it will stop (no matter what) and then monitor for new media after the scan (I have set to real time monitor folders) I presume that all the time the scheduled scan is running it will not add new media until complete?
pwhodges 2012 Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 Hmm; I guess those settings are alright once everything is in place - but maybe the scheduled tasks are already taking resources, and you need to stop them for now to let the main scan finish. I'll leave further comments on this to the developers or those with more experience of those settings than I have (I only generate thumbnails for chapters, and don't use intro-skip at all). Paul 1
rbjtech 5284 Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 As Paul has advised, the two biggest resource hogs are thumnail previews and intro detection. If you put them on a scheduled task, then they will not run as part of new media getting added by RTM but they WILL be run as part of a manual scan - because the scan sees the data as missing. A debug log will show where it's getting 'stuck' but it's likely just doing the thumbnail/intro tasks which, depending on the speed of the server and/or size/number of episodes in a show, could take hours/days ... 1
mbc0 68 Posted October 10, 2023 Author Posted October 10, 2023 Thank you for your replies, I have all my tasks scattered through a 24 hour period and I do have a lot of media and also some is cloud based so I will just let it do it's thing, I just wish there was a way to clearly see what it is doing like a percentage bar on a particular library or something. Again, thanks 1
Luke 42083 Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 Hi there, let's look at an example scan: How to Report a Problem Thanks. 1

Hi Luke, I don't think there is a problem, it is just purely how long it takes to generate previews & intro detection, I have a large library and some of it on remote storage so if I still have the same issue after another few weeks I will be back
