Watchlist Bug

Hi,

there is a bug with the watchlist u can create.

if i add a movie to a watchlist an modify the file of this movie, the movie disapears.

it would be nice that the movie wont get lost.

it should work like this.

i add a movie an the movie is visible. if i modify the file the movie should be visible.

if i delete the file, the movie should stay in the list but maybe "invisible" and if i add a few day/weeks later a new file, the movie should be visible again.

if the movie gets lost, where is the point of a watchlist if everything gets lost???

greetings

Hi, watchlist are you referring to?

Posted

it is called " Wiedergabeliste"

OK that's a playlist, not a watchlist. Anyway, yes the playlists contains the physical paths to the media files. If those paths change you may need to update the playlist. You could edit the playlist file by hand if you want.

why the path? this makes no sense.

is there al list wich is working better? this crap is unusable

Hi.  Playlists are lists of specific media in a specific order.  The path is the only way to identify a specific piece of media at this time.

We do need a watchlist though. It should replace the favourite section at the top of the screen.

Favourites should be displayed only as a filter option within the library.

Thats how I think it should work anyways.

i have no issue with the favourites functionality or its placement. but my expectation is that a watchlist feature would get far more use by a far wider user base than favourites do. i've been an emby user since day 1 and i don't think i've ever used favourites.

haha - I had very similiar thoughts the other day when I was looking on how best to implement a 'watchlist' built as a channel using a playlist called 'Watchlist' ..

If we could simply rename Favourites to Watch List, add as Home 'Row' (or multiple rows, if multiple WatchList types (tv, movie etc) - it would be perfect as you can add to it from the tv or movie item ...

Nobody in my estate uses Favourites either - so if it did go/get replaced - I certainly wouldn't miss it covering that function..

Exactly.

We should get a poll put out on this feature.

I also need a list where I can add a movie via IMDb Id or tmdb id. And when a file exists it would be set to visible in the list.

so if movies will be announced, so I can add them and wait a year  and don’t forget about it.

Btw where is the „random“ episode button?

as the guy above me said, i can see why you might want to play from a list of favourite songs or music videos within a library, but who is watching the same movie repeatedly such that they need to favourite it? 🤪

That one is easily achievable - Just create a library and put the trailer for what interests you in there.   I have a script that automates this based on 'empty' folders in my main library, grabs the official trailer and creates a strm link to the trailer in this library - so both the trailer and 'play' playback the trailer.    If it becomes available in my main library, then it removes the entry in this Library.

I need to update it actually to add the 'Release Date' (as added date) and then I will sort by that date, so I get the soonest to be released on the left ...

this wont work for me, sometimes trailer will be automatically removed.

a libary could be the solved problem, if i can add "empty" objects. objects without a file. and if the libaryscan finds an physical object, then should it be added to the "empty" object.

The trailers are downloaded .. so I don't have that issue .. plus the quality is 1080 or 4K ..

Funnily enough, my family and I use the favourites feature as a watchlist. A watchlist is much more useful to us than favourites. That's not to say that I would get rid of favourites as it can be useful as a filter, but a watchlist should definitely be added.

That's discussion for another topic though...

Exactly - that's the general feedback a lot of us seem to be giving.

I think given the busy state of peoples lives, the overload of new and exciting content that people do not have time to watch and thus need to be selective and the simple fact most people no longer watch the same media over and over again - the Favourites function has possibly out lived it usefullness.

I think it may still have a place for music and maybe things like the odd favorite episodes, but just as a 'filter' from a metadata edit, not a primary drop down menu option or a prime position on the home menu.  Frankly, adding a Favourite 'Tag' would do the same thing.

Of much more importance imo (and many others), is the lack of 'watch list' - which is functionaly equivalent - so it may be a case of literally having the option to rename 'Favourites'  - and add to the home menu instead...

@LukeIs this something which could be open to discussion, or is Favourites baked into the core and would be very difficult to reassign ?

Maybe I should add as a Feature Request ?

Thanks.

the main two differences i see in how i would expect or like a watchlist function to work are:

  • watched media to be automatically removed from the watchlist
  • to have some sort of shared watch list functionality to replace the top picks plugin

i'd also really like the watchlist to be a row of movies and series on my homescreen, so its much more in your face than favourites is, but i imagine thats quite easy to do

Agree 100% - this is exactly what the 'Recommended' script I wrote did a few years back, the concept of adding to a 'Global/Shared' list was there also.  It was just very janky and you had to add via a 'Playlist' as that still is the only way for client 'user input' (outside favorites) - but it worked... lol

We may be getting closer and Luke may be working on it as we speak, but tbh I'm just so surprised that emby doesn't have this as standard - and frankly should have been top of the list years ago .. 🤪

No streaming service I've ever used has removed things from the watch list after watching them. Other than the absence of a home screen row favourites works no differently to Netflix's "my list". Prime, MUBI, the Criterion Channel, Stan, Binge, and Kanopy all hide their watch lists in a sub menu and thus function exactly as Emby's "favourites" already does.
