RaptorCentauri 59 Posted September 25, 2023 Posted September 25, 2023 Is it possible to have both a username and a friendly name option for users? I.E a user could have a username that they are familiar with, like Megatron87, but have an alias on the server as Frank. I explained that terribly, but I think the idea is relatively simple to understand.
Luke 42077 Posted September 25, 2023 Posted September 25, 2023 HI, I guess, but then it would require more controls over which one is displayed where, not to mention more troubleshooting when users try to sign in with the alias and get an error.
RaptorCentauri 59 Posted January 4 Author Posted January 4 I'd like to revisit this. Having a display name is, IMO, a fairly standard feature. I would say anywhere in the UI, display the friendly name if set - otherwise fall back to the username. As for the sign-in trouble I don't see that as any different of an issue than a user forgetting his username. Since these are self hosted systems, solving that should fall on the system admin. This feature would also allow the use of the display name feature in LDAP. 1
