Stueck 0 Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 Hello, when I pause a video on the client (Emby Android TV/Shield) for too long, my Windows "NAS" goes to sleep. This also happens when I am in the menu without watching anything. Then when I want to resume the video, the screen goes gray and nothing else happens (can't connect to Emby server => sleeps). The only solution I have found is to restart the Emby app => WOL signal is sent again. I need an option to keep my server alive when a client is open (in menu or paused). Or at least a new WoL signal when the server is down. It's really a big problem when the server is gone and the client doesn't notice it (gray screen/no new WoL). What are my options to solve this? Could this be built into the client? I need the server standby as it is quite noisy and power hungry. Configuration: Windows 10 with emby 4.7.14.0 nVidia Shield with Emby Android TV App from Google Play Store Thank you and best regards

Neminem 1518 Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 How long time is you App ideel ? You could set the shut down to something more than 15 min. What is a Server? (computerhope.com)
visproduction 315 Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 ST, Check Windows, Nvidia and TV time out settings. I am guessing it's one of those.

I am new to emby and am testing to see if it works as needed. Therefore I have configured the "server" for a fast standby. The app idle was about 30 minutes. After the server went into standby, I went to the client to see how it was behaving => It was not able to play anything (gray screen) and there was no error message. 14 minutes ago, jaycedk said: What is a Server? (computerhope.com) Thank you for your reply, but it is not about the definition of a server. This is my usecase to let the server sleep when not in use. A keepalive-signal on idle or resending a WoL signal should not be a problem. 11 minutes ago, visproduction said: ST, Check Windows, Nvidia and TV time out settings. I am guessing it's one of those. Thank you. I am not sure what you mean. But it is intended that the server goes into standby when no client is active. However, if the client is open (idle) then that should be blocked.

Apps these days are pretty much always open and, as I've observed with my kids, people these days often don't stop something, they just pause it and walk away or turn off the TV. At some point, we have to assume they really aren't there anymore.

Yes I miss a dedicated STOP-Button in the app player too. Turning off the TV should quit by CEC or at least programable via a harmony remote 1 hour ago, ebr said: At some point, we have to assume they really aren't there anymore. Should be good for me. But when I come back, the app doesn't work anymore (gray screen when playing) because the server is gone. I need a WoL re-sent when the user starts navigating again. Or a keepalive while in pause/menu Maybe quit/logout the app is enough to send the WoL when it starts again. The problem is that the app is still open without being able to start a video. Lets say the user needs about a hour for selecting his video, then the server also isn't prevented from sleep? Or is here a prevention? Edited September 22, 2023 by Stueck
