It's hard to explain, IMO the Android TV app just feels better some how to use.
If i was forced to say what was different i would say slightly more fluent, better looking and more options. How ever slight the differences are they do add up to something that feels better to use.
The extra options like fx. down mix to stereo can be very useful when having trouble.

I have to agree. 

Maybe it's my TV, which is a 4 year old Sony, but the universal Android app is so slow and laggy, that if it weren't for the Android TV app, sadly, I would probably cancel my Emby subscription and find another media system.

Same here, the regular app does not work well with a remote.

android tv app, press back on remote, it goes back out of menus until it says "You want to exit?" you press yes and the app exits. When you open again you are greeted with the "Select user" page. Just like other tv apps.

Regular app, press back and you will get a side menu to open up, and if you continue the app goes away into hiding but never really exit the same way the android tv app does. And there seem to be no way at all to get the app to start with "Select user" page..

Hi, netflix and disney+ do this. Does that mean their apps also don't work well with a remote?

I can’t find these settings, and use shield with the Emby for android 3.4.36 from the App Store
