Marcus1305 19 Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 I think this is self explanatory. When watching HDR content TV's need to maximize backlight and contrast settings which results in subtitles which are too bright. To fix this problem user should be given the option to choose subtitle color for hdr content only and the most optimal choice would be light gray or gray in order to reduce blooming. This is common issue with HDR and for example TV channels like BBC and others change their logo color ( which is usually in the corner) to gray for HDR channels. I understand this might be hard to implement and if it is not possible maybe adding option to change subtitle color in the subtitles menu when playback is active would be solid alternative.
GrimReaper 4739 Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 You can lend your support here: From the same thread: Quote 1. Be able to change the color of the subtitle from the OSD while a video is playing. On AndroidTV I now have to stop the video, go all the way back to the home screen, go to settings, change the subtitle colour, go back to the home screen, choose the video and start playing again. So being able to change the color from the OSD would save A LOT of clicks. 2. Set separate colour for subtitles for SDR and HDR content and automatically choose the relevant one based on the file that's playing.

wolfram84 10 Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 Please add an option to change subtitle position vertically like ATV app...

Yeah but the only useful thing I see is gray color option, which isn't really good for sdr content only for hdr. There is no option to quickly change the look of the subtitles while the movie is being played. Which means you need to disable the playback go all the way to the subtitles settings, return and play the video again. There are many cases where you will forget to revert the color to white for sdr and vice versa for hdr. Separate sdr and hdr subtitles color is not implemented also.
Luke 42077 Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 Hi, two more shades of great have been added to the options list for the next release. Separate hdr options are always a possibility. Thanks. 2
Marcus1305 19 Posted September 21, 2023 Author Posted September 21, 2023 (edited) Thanks, separate hdr options would be the best solution if possible, the other workaround is to add ability to change color of the subtitles in the subtitles menu while playback is active. wollanup 1 Posted May 20, 2025 Posted May 20, 2025 +1 Separate HDR/SDR settings or simply 2 different styles with a switch available during playback, it can be enough. And a brightness slider, or a darker yellow would be perfect Hope that can be done, and come to the Samsung app. 1

wollanup 1 Posted May 22, 2025 Posted May 22, 2025 Hi @Luke, Thank you for your answer. OK, I'll check the orange in HDR. But we are talking about a workaround here, don't you agree? The real point is to have an "automatic" or "very quick access during playback" setting when to handle SDR/HDR content.
