Library Not Updating

I have one library that is not updating. I made a mistake and used the folder Gilligans Island (1963) and the files in it were named like Gilligans_Island-1963-SxxExx-Episode_Title_Text.mp4. When I scanned the library files last night, all the other shows were handled without a problem, but this show wasn't matched, so I tried identifying it manually. Once I did that, I realized the year for it was 1964, not 1963. So I renamed the folder and files to use 1964 instead of 1963. That means, of course, that the files Emby has listed for this library no longer exist. (Tried, in case it somehow smartly followed the renaming, but the files with 1963 in the name are gone and can't be played - just wanted to be sure.)

After doing that, I used "Scan Library Files" and it took a few hours for the 21 shows in the library, but when it was done, there was no update. The 1963 version was not gone and the 1964 version is not there in Emby yet. I checked on the Dashboard and, for the past 45 minutes or so, the status under Running Tasks is "Scan Media Library" and, under that, is "stopping." So it's been stopping for a while and still no update on this show.

I also noticed that if I use the mini-menu for this series, there is a Scan Library Files function. I don't know if this is just for the one show or whether it means it'll rescan the entire library, but I'm waiting for the other library scan task to finish before trying that. Do I have to manually remove a series from the library? I would think that would be picked up automatically by Emby since it's supposed to look for changes to the files and directories. Also, I don't want to delete it from the library, since, when I try, I get a warning it'll also delete it from my file system. Yes, I know the files it's looking for to delete are already gone, but until I understand Emby better, I don't want it deleting files on my media server unless I think its necessary. (Even though that library is made up of symlinks, I'm disappointed I can't just remove the series from the library or get Emby to see it's not there and delete it from the library automatically.)

1 - How do I get Emby to update this issue so the 1963 version is dropped and it sees the 1964 version?
2 - Is the scan function on the menu for a series localized to just that series or does it scan the entire directory tree in that library?

It's recommended to provide more info, as it explain in this thread:

Thank you.

I have to add another part of this issue:

I've added more shows to the directory with this library in it and they are not showing up at all. So, in some way, this library seems frozen. A scan won't see files that are gone and won't see new directories and files that have been added.

Well, I restarted Emby and it seemed okay. As I was looking over the settings, I saw that there were two methods to determine which directories were new and one was creation date. Since I was using links and had copied the directory, I realized it would not pick up on it being new. I changed that setting to compare to Emby's DB to see what was new.

Still, it takes HOURS to scan a server with about 21 shows, and what I estimate to be 1,000 to 1,500 total episodes. I started a rescan about 2 hours ago. There were 3 new shows in the library's main directory. The 3 new shows appeared, but without any episode count or metadata or images. One of them FINALLY had an image for the show and showed all episodes as unread after over an hour. The other two shows are there, but still no metadata or images or any episodes showing up for them after at least 2 hours.

Is scanning the library normally this slow?

Hi, can you please attach the emby server log?

Then we can tell you what it was doing and offer advice on how you might be able to speed it up.

Thanks.

Server log attached.

It's close to 3 AM (yes, I'm a night person) and I'm pretty sure I started this scan before midnight. Here's a shot of the library I'm scanning:

These are all shows I count on for non-disruptive background noise. When I started the scan, I had added Adam-12, Dragnet, and Gilligan's Island, so, all told, about 300-400 new episodes. It was over an hour before Dragnet showed all the episodes and the image showed up for it. The other two shows I added (Adam 12 and Gilligan) still show no episodes at all. For the past 2 hours (I think longer), this is the progress bar on the Dashboard:

So it's looked like it was close to finishing for a good while, but just not finishing. Yesterday and the day before I found when I scanned the library again, after adding shows, it might see them within a few minutes, but would still take an hour or more before any of the new shows added would show any image to represent the show and it'd also take an extremely long time for Emby to provide any kind of episode count.

Hi, it looks like its' just probing your media files for media info. I would just be patient and allow it to finish. I think this all should be slightly faster in the upcoming 4.8 server release. Thanks.

I tested by adding another library - and it was FAR faster on the other library. Is it possible that, somehow, maybe a forbidden character ended up in a filename and it's hanging on something like that?

No. Is the other library on different storage?

No.

I have Emby running on a Debian Linux server. I have a 17TB SSD RAID NAS where all my files are. To create the libraries, I make symlinks on that NAS from the files to the directory I'm using for the library. (Using symlinks like this is giving me a lot of flexibility while I'm testing and working things out, since I'm looking at Emby and Plex at this time.) The media library on the NAS is a SAMBA share and mounted through that on the Debian system.

OK that's strange. Thanks for the info.
