Nothing plays on Emby Theater

HI, what is the in-app quality setting set to?

Posted

I've also just hit this, so I rather presume it's to do with .46 server (unless Theatre's just updated - I have v3.0.21).  Attempting to play in Windows Theatre results in the timeline appearing, but just a spinning circle above it, and no indication of play on the dashboard.

I noticed this yesterday and planned to experiment today, but just now I attempted to play two different files which I would expect to direct play.  The log of those attempts is attached (no ffmeg logs were generated).  The quality setting is at 1080p/8Mbps.

Strange. Seems to be playing OK for me. Can you try restarting the app and seeing if that helps?

Agree - Just tried and same spinning circle for everything played.

Beta Server - 4.8.0.46

Theatre - 3.0.21

App restarted multiple times.

Same here ... Now nothing is playing ?

Same here.  I ended up having to un-install (and select the complete removal option) and then re-install and that fixed it for me.  I tried at first not checking the complete removal option but that did not work.  Server is 4.7.14.

I guess I just got lucky.  Good luck, hopefully it gets resolved from the Emby team soon.

Sorry to hear about this guys. Looking into it. As a test, can you try shutting down the app and deleting this folder:

C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Theater\data

Then start back up. Does this resolve it?

Yes, that fixed it.  I preserved the data directory, of course - is there anything it might be useful to look at?

Before you go, a couple of questions.

First - which Windows client are you trying?  Is it the one from the Windows Store, or is it the one downloaded from the Emby web site?  The second of these is by far the more reliable one.

Second - did you try Theatre on the same computer as the browser that worked, and is that the same computer as your server?

@generiq- Can you kindly remind me why I would want to use gpu-next over Auto ?

It's the gpu-next that is causing the issue here - set it to Auto (or gpu, or libmpv), and it then works ok.

Thanks !

OK, if the browser is also not working, then we have a communications problem, either in the Emby network settings, or in the firewall of the server's host machine.

Do I take it that by "hosted" you mean in a cloud machine?  If so,  then all your clients count as external, so we need to start from that machine, first by checking that the machine is accessible from outside on the necessary ports, e.g. using canyouseeme.org checking the same port as is specified in the Emby Network settings, by default 8096 - if you don't have a GUI on the host machine, then we'll have to think of the best way to test it from outside.

In any case, the steps in this support page are a useful summary of what's needed.

For other readers, I can access the server just fine using either browser or Theatre.
