Intermittent connection to Emby Server

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am new to Emby, I switched recently from Plex to Emby as I like the interface. All my media mostly movies, are on a harddrive attached to my PC. I use my PC as a server and play my files back on a Nvidia Shield, Apple TV and Dune HD Hotmatics android box. I have a premiere subscription. Emby was working perfectly on all my devises since I started on 06/09/2023, last night I could not access the server from my windows pc, it will pick up the server and then lose connection again. I restarted the pc on several occasions and even rolled back windows to a previous state. It works and then stops.

I have attached the log. Ps. I have never ever had an issue with my Plex server and even when Emby server was down, checked the Plex server and its is still running.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi, there, what exactly happens when you try to connect? Can you please describe what is happening in more detail? Thanks.

@Blignaeyou need to attach the embyserver*.txt log files.

Knowing what app you are connecting to Emby with might also be helpful.

Hi sorry for the delay, I was trying some things on my PC. If I restart my computer, then the server works again, but if I leave it running overnight then the next day I struggle to log onto my apps. I use Nvidia Shield and also my Sony Tv. See attached screenshots from my Sony TV. It doesn't do it all the time.

Hi, I have just tried my Emby apps again on my Sony Tv and Nvidia Shield TV Pro and the same thing happened again. It did not detect the server. When I tried to access the server on the PC itself, it also did not open. I restarted the PC and now the server works again.

I have my Plex server on the same PC and when I cannot access the Emby apps on Sony Tv and Nvidia Shield, I then try to access the Plex apps on both devices and it works works. I assume there is perhaps some config on my PC that the Emby server don't like. As I am typing this I lost connection to the server again. See attached pics of the screen.

The server just came back up again after a couple of minutes.

Hmm strange.  The logs appears to be ok.  If you 'restart' Emby from the context menu (as in your first pic) does it then respond after 30 seconds or so ?   From the sounds of it, the application itself is dying after a peroid of time - but I'm not sure why.     If you can't get the server on localhost, then there is something very wrong.

I have noticed some DLNA traffic in the logs - so it may be worth, just for diagnostics, to turn off/disable DLNA in emby - and see if it then stays alive.

What exactly happens when you try to log in? What problem do you see on screen?

The App is simply not responding Luke - the zip file contains screen grabs of what the OP sees - URL looks correct, but no login or web page is being rendered until after a restart.

Hi, I uninstalled the Emby server and deleted all info from the app data folder, did a fresh install and now it works.

Thanks.

OK, usually if you uninstall, reinstall and do everything the same way, ultimately you'll end up with the same result. Let us know if you run into it again and we'll resume investigating. Thanks.
