Audiobooks Functionality Request

I find that the FF and REW commands do not work reliably and often not at all on my audiobook files.  I have also found that Emby does not reliably keep the place in an audiobook, so that you can start listening later at the spot you left off. I would also like to request a more robust metadata search if one or more good databases can be found.

I will get logs when I am back home.  An example.  Yesterday, I listened to approximately half of an Audiobooks (radio drama, actually). I fired up Emby today to listen to the rest, but Emby would only play it from the beginning. The spot where I had stopped yesterday was not retained.  This was on the Samsung app.  I was able to fast forward until I reached a spot I recognized as close to where I had stopped. I have had the same issue with the Chromecast and Fire apps, except those apps do not let you fast forward at al, so you are forced to listen all in one go.

Hi, that would be great, thanks !

Did those logs contain the error events I described or should I be pulling others?

Hi, when you initially stopped playing, did it show in the continue listening section?

The Chromecast app does not have a continue listening section.

What version of the Emby Chromecast app are you testing with? Where are you looking for the continue listening section? What home screen sections has your emby user configured to show on their home screen?

It is version 2.0.93g. I am looking for it on the Home Screen under Continue Watching. The Home Screen rows setting is set to show Continue Listening under Continue Watching, but it is not there.

On a happier note, I think I have stumbled on a partial solution. In the playback setting, I unchecked Allow Direct Play of TS Files. Tentatively this seems to have allowed Emby to remember the partial play stop and allows skip forward (only 10 seconds at a time, although it is set on 1 min in the setting). Saving the played location is huge.

It appears my joy on this was short lived. This seems to have partially alleviated the issue on certain files only. Last night, I listened to a recently added m4b Blake’s 7 audio drama. On that file, the partially listened place was not retained an FF/REW were inactive.

The file for which Emby did retained the listened to place and allowed 10 sec skip forward was an mp3.

Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!

Also, did you configure the resume settings to your liking on your audio books library?

The resume setting are set appropriately in the audiobooks library settings.  I will pull more logs.  What did you find about the resume problems on the logs I previously posted?

Set appropriately meaning how are they set?

After a little trial and error among the several apks, I did get one successfully installed.  It is a HUGE improvement. Everything seems to work. I will play with it for a few days and report back, but even if I do find some issues, it is enormously better and than the Chromecast app. Thank you very, very much.

P.S. Any way to make this run on my Samsung Smart TV?

  • Thanks 1
