Geejay71 0 Posted September 5, 2023 Posted September 5, 2023 Hello, I've been using Emby for a short while now and absolutely love it. I'm running off a Zimaboard 832 on a Proxmox container. Everything from Dolby Atmos to HDR works flawlessly. I do not use hardware acceleration and only direct play. The reason is all my playback devices do not need transcoding. I have an Nvidia Shield in the Living room connected to a 4K TV and a few Samsung Galaxy S series phones. Now, even my Firestick which is connected to a 1080P display can play my 4K movies just fine (something I do not know how). Now my question is, does Direct Play allow me to watch my movies at the best possible quality or will using hardware acceleration with tone mapping etc... make any difference?
Luke 42077 Posted September 5, 2023 Posted September 5, 2023 Quote Now my question is, does Direct Play allow me to watch my movies at the best possible quality HI, yes. Transcoding is used to convert to compatible formats when the device doesn't support something, but it will never have a higher quality than direct playing the original file.
Geejay71 0 Posted September 5, 2023 Author Posted September 5, 2023 Thanks, Luke for the prompt reply.
