pir8radio 1312 Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 It would be nice to be able to pick a song and much like the "Quick Mix" button that pops up, have a selection that will make a playlist with "SIMILAR" music instead. This is the only reason i leave pandora playing in my house, because there isn't a MB3 built in smart playlist feature, that looks through what music i have and builds a playlist of similar items. Maybe using a third party API like?: http://developer.echonest.com/docs/v4/basic.html 1
ebr 16169 Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 That's exactly what the Instant Mix does now it is just limited to the metadata we have available. Pandora has spent MILLIONS developing their database of similarities. It is quite complex and the whole Pandora service actually grew out of a project to come up with a better way to define these music similarities. Their criteria is like 450 attributes deep. IMO, because of this, Pandora is the best at coming up with these lists. They also have the advantage of going against a massive music library. I know you do too but that is atypical of our users. We need to limit our list of songs to the ones available to us to play.
ebr 16169 Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Just to add - I'm sure our algorithm for selection can be improved and, if a 3rd-party API were to facilitate that that would be great. But we'd have to somehow limit the selection of songs to what is actually available to be played.
pir8radio 1312 Posted October 29, 2014 Author Posted October 29, 2014 (edited) Ok, maybe i didn't mess around with it enough! all i know is i had iggy azalea - black widow playing and hit quick mix, lol the next song up was Eurythmics - The Brits Awards 1989 (disc 2) , i skipped ahead and got Tony Bennett I'll do some playing around.... I guess you can delete this topic lol since its already a feature! FYI, the third party API i posted above does look to do just that, im not sure how it obtains your library info, i didnt read too much into it... but looks promising. ebr 16169 Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 No, I won't delete this because I'm sure our methods can be improved.
