brainii 4 Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 Originally installed Emby server 4.7.13 from the Mint software list. Configured Emby, fully working, used for a few weeks, LOVED it. Then got notification that 4.7.14 is available but no automatic update button/option, that sucks btw big time, ended up wasting 4+ hours, see below. So, I shut down Emby, download manually new version, install, easy (or so I thought). The new server instance pops up, and goes straight to initial configuration, seems all configured settings are lost. I'm pulling my hair. I'm thinking no really big deal, I'll just reconfigure it. But lo and behold, no matter what I do, I cannot Emby to see the library folder/file (which is on my 2nd hard drive). I spent at least 4 hours reading forums, guides, assigning permissions etc, still nothing. The half solution comes later: Sudo edit: /etc/init/emby-server.conf setuid myusername (instead of emby) I shut down the server again and restart, and voila, the previous versions starts with all my settings there! However, I still have two versions of Emby. When my Linux reboots, the NEW broken version autostarts. When I shut it down and start Emby again, the OLD good version appears. 1) I need a way to remove the NEW broken version. 2) Alternatively, is there a step by step, tested way/guide to update to the latest version keeping all the settings/not breaking anything? (on the free license currently). Thanks
Luke 42077 Posted August 29, 2023 Posted August 29, 2023 Hi, how exactly did you install the server the first time around?
brainii 4 Posted August 29, 2023 Author Posted August 29, 2023 I just used the Software Manager of Linux Mint, one click auto installation through the GUI. This installed 4.7.13 which had no problems.
brainii 4 Posted August 30, 2023 Author Posted August 30, 2023 hi, I still need a solution to this if anyone can help please. thanks
Solution sargenthp 35 Posted August 30, 2023 Solution Posted August 30, 2023 Hello, This is why I don't really like FlatHub as it can confuse people. You cannot update FlatHub installs with standard install packages. FlatHub contains the program and all dependent programs in a semi-container. Since Emby does not deploy that way you would have had to wait for whoever created the FlatHub install to release the updated version to update the installed FlatHub version. So.... If you really want to run the unsupported version of Emby... Go to the console, and execute: dpkg -r emby-server That should remove the standard install package. 2
Luke 42077 Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 @brainiiplease let us know if this helps. Thanks.
brainii 4 Posted August 31, 2023 Author Posted August 31, 2023 i will try, I'll make a timeshift just in case So if FlatHub is the incorrect way, can I start all over again with the correct way, but keep my current Emby settings? For example if I reinstall using the proper way and simply overwrite the Emby server folders my current settings will be kept? Thanks 1
brainii 4 Posted August 31, 2023 Author Posted August 31, 2023 I'd like to give big thanks. I managed to remove the new/duplicate version using sudo dpkg -r emby-server 1 1
