Manage access for kids, problems with age rating and library setup

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I currently have a few folders and libraries set up:

Library Content Type Folder Adult user Kids user
Movies movies movies X
Shows shows shows X
Animation mixed animation X X
Kids mixed kids   X

The intention is for the kids to see everything in "Kids", but only up until age 9 in animation.

The parental control is per user, so I've set it to NL-9 and I blocked all items with no or unrecognized rating information.

Now an item in kids is mpaa 0+ (in tvshow.nfo) and it doesn't show up.

Where is the rating retrieved from? I have tvdb as first option for meta data, but can't find the age rating there. Should 0+ not be recognized as ALL ages?

Is there another way to achieve what I want? Age restriction per library?

I also looked into tags, but there is no way to automatically tag everything added to the kids library, nor can I combine age rating with tags.

Which country rating would 0+ be? It is likely not recognized hence being blocked/not shown as per your settings.

Well, I was assuming it was blocked because of my unrecognized settings, but I have no clue where 0+ comes from.

Its a Dutch TV show and I have the rating set to Dutch standard

Do you have other fetchers enabled? It could be coming from those if tvdb doesn’t have a rating.

I have them all on, but I think I had it on default the first time I scanned (so without TheMovieDb for Series and Episodes):

I would replace all instances of "0+" with "AL" in your NFOs; you can easily do it in batch with some text editor, like Notepad++ Find in Files:

Scan media library afterwards.

True, but I'm an automation kinda guy 😋, I wouldn't want to have to check this each time I dump something in the Kids folder, nor have to redo this whenever I do a metadata refresh (I have seen it changed back after a manual edit).

Then it's up to the Devs to ensure "0+" is recognized under TV show ratings.

That would be nice, or an "always show this folder" option...

This was only a test with the first show I threw in there, so I don't know if there are any others that aren't recognized, like 6+ or 12+ or something

yes, that is what I am doing, however, the "Animation" folder is shared between the adults and the kids, but they contain animations that are not suited for children, hence adding the parental age control as well.

I don't want a 3rd folder that says "animations for kids and adults", because as the kids get older, I just want to up the age restriction, instead of move stuff from the "adult" to the "adult and kid" folder...

You can add a trigger to the emby db, to automatically replace 0+ rating to whatever you need.
This would be a trigger in the db and gets triggered automatically when movies are added and is replacing all existing movies with a 0+ rating.

I'm using a docker based Emby install and have meta data stored with the media in nfo files.
Also, like I said, I've only tested a few shows so far, so I don't know if there are any other mismatches.

How does Emby handle rating in different countries? I looked here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motion_picture_content_rating_system

0+ is used in Russia and Taiwan, should Emby make the match to the Dutch system?

Another show has TV-Y7 (USA rating), and that one is recognized correctly.

i am from austria, so we use the german FSK rating, I also have all my infos in NFO files but if i add a new movie or a show sometimes it is not taking the correct rating, so i created a trigger in the emby database to update all wrong ratings and replace them with my FSK ratings.

Most movies and shows i get with correct rating, but if there are no german infos or whatever criterium it is to get them, i have other rating systems.

Sometimes i get movies with 12+ or something else, sometimes i get US ratings or whatever but this will be replaced automatically to my normal FSK rating.

So adding a trigger to your database will do the trick until the devs maybe improve it.

I think we just need to add support for the 0+ rating, right, then it will no longer be unrecognized?

I assume so, but like I said, only tested this one show so far, so no clue if any of the others will have an unrecognized rating...

Looking at Taiwan, it also has 6+, 12+, 15+ and 18+. Russia has 16+ instead of 15+ as well...

Do you have any other unrecognized ratings in your system?

Unfortunately I haven't had the time to continue with this, I will see if I can test some things over the weekend

I've checked a bunch more and found "6" and "15" that were not recognized as well.

There is also a bunch without rating, so in the end I'll either need to manually update some, or find another way to share libraries between adults and kids, without content that is not for their age yet.

I also don't know what to do about those that have a "NR" / "U" / "UR" rating, as they get overwritten with meta-data refreshes if I manually set them to what I find appropiate...

You want to make those edits in Custom rating field, as those will take precedence for parental control purposes, leave Parental rating field as-is (whatever comes after metadata refresh).

Thanks, this works pretty well for what I need, also to overrule any of the not recognized ones!

Not if you lock the field, which happens automatically when you edit.

yes I was editing the nfo files outside of Emby, so that's probably not the way I should have been doing it :P
