EMBY, Windows 11 & SSD Hard Drives!!!

Hi everyone!!!

Well, first of all, my apologies for being responsible for bringing up all the "odd issues" with hardware/software/OS's and EMBY, but, here's my latest predicament...hopefully, one of you EMBY/Windows experts might be able to help me.

I am running quite an extensive library of assorted  media on EMBY Premiere (lifetime) on a Dell Optiplex 7070, with an i7-9700 CPU @ 3.00GHz, 32 GB of RAM & a 1TB SSD hard drive.  Media storage is on 56 GB's of external storage. The installed OS at purchase of the computer was Win 11, and  I have stripped it down to remove all possible "bloatware"...other than a few "maintenance utilities", there is nothing else clogging up Windows.  I am however STILL experiencing an odd problem with this setup.  I will explain what is happening and then what I believe to be the problem.

For the first few weeks, the system ran fine.  Then, I started having connection issues watching any kind of media through our nVidia Shield Pro in the main living room, or the 2 ROKU TV's we have in bedrooms.  Once the media is done playing and the system returns to EMBY, I was getting "There seems to be a problem connecting to your server" error, either preceded or followed by an "error connecting to live TV channels" error.  Sometimes, I have to exit and re-start EMBY 10 - 20 times before re-establishing connection!

Due to the nature of the error messages and NOT being neither an EMBY nor a Windows 11 expert, I suspected some kind of networking error on my part, either in EMBY's settings or in my Windows networking settings.  My network "WAS" reconfigured by "some" Windows update, and was set to "public" rather then "private'", which I did correct.  I continued troubleshooting network issues for weeks, but to no avail.  The system kept doing the same thing, but would "eventually" connect, and work once again.  It began to feel like there might be some sort of IP conflict between the TV's, the Shield box & the server, so I reset all 3 media players to factory defaults, and after weeks of troubleshooting, have concluded that "networking" is NOT the issue.

I have however noticed that it seems like the actual computer is not refreshing the SSD hard drive once media stops playing.  What I mean is that, if I bring up EMBY to display the "HOME" page right at the computer after playing some kind of media, NONE of the media displays on the HOME page.  Exiting the HOME page then re-loading it will EVENTUALLY "SLOWLY" reload the media content!... (special attention here to the word "SLOWLY"!!!!!)  My investigation/research has so far indicated that the problem "MAY" have to do with the combination of Windows 11 and SSD hard drives.  From what I have read, M$ has discovered an issue with Win 11 and SSD hard drives, in that, due to the nature of SSD hard drives, is creating an issue with "file operations"...indeed, sometimes, bringing up "file explorer" will take an EXCESSIVE amount of time to display a folder's content.

Armed with this new information, I set out to find a solution to the problem.  There exists multiple "SSD maintenance" programs that supposedly address this problem, so I purchased one called "AShampoo SSD Fresh" which runs in the background and keeps the HD FULLY optimized at all times.  The initial installation DID take care of some issues with the "optimization" of the SSD.  I have even set it up so that the HD is verified every 15 minutes to ensure MAXIMUM optimization.  For the first few days, it seemed as though the problem was solved, but it is now recurring, although the system DOES refresh within the first 2 - 3 EMBY restarts now instead of 10 - 20 tries!!!.

SO...does anyone have any ideas which direction I should take now???  I have exhausted my (very small) bag of tricks, so if ANYONE could suggest a possible solution, I would be eternally grateful!!!  It's to a point ow that watching ANYTHING on EMBY has become a chore rather that an enjoyment!

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help!!!

LONG LIVE EMBY!!!!!!!

Did you mean 56 TB of external storage ?

Reason for asking is the size of the DB Cache may be too small - and you need to increase it.

As you have 32GB of memory to play with - I'd start with increasing to 2GB (2048MB).

You can also check, if windows defender or something like it, is running.

And using cpu and drives, to scan on file access.

If that's the case you can make a rule not to scan on file access, on that drive.

But that comes with risks.
