Another TMM issue:

When I set the "Watched" flag for a TV episode in tinyMediaManager, it changes the <watched> tag in the .NFO to "true". But when I refresh the metadata from Emby, it resets it to "false" if I don't already have it marked as played in Emby. (I do have "Save user watch data to nfo's" enabled in the .NFO plugin.) Is there a way Emby could be set to read that tag on a metadata refresh and not overwrite it?

Emby doesn't read the <watched> tag value into its database, but writes it to the nfo if you've allowed it to do.
Click on the nfo plugin in Emby and check the setting "Save user watch data to nfo's for:"

Thanks, but as I said in my post, I already did that.

Oh, sorry. But this is still true: Emby doesn't read the <watched> tag value into its database!

Okay... I don't see how that's really relevant to my issue, though.

OK please do these two things:

  1. blank out the user option for user data in the nfo plugin settings
  2. Try the attached version of the plugin

Essentially when you disable saving that information I've updated the plugin to treat those as unknown tags and just preserve them.

I don't think that's what I want, though. I want Emby to show the episode as played if I've marked it played in TMM and refreshed the metadata, and if I've marked it played, or played it, in Emby. Does that make sense?

Right I understand, although I think this changed should be made anyway. I don't have an immediate short term solution because we've been down this road before of reading watch data from nfo's and it was a troubleshooting nightmare. Users would frequently blame Emby for loss of watch data when it was some other application that had updated the nfo and changed or remove the data. So there's no way we're going to just turn that back on and go back to all of that.

That doesn't mean we can't read this information from nfo's again, however it needs to be thought out carefully how we're going to do this, how to make sure the user is aware of the implications, etc.

That's reasonable. I can live with making a rule for myself for now to only set the watched flag from Emby. Just wanted to put the issue out there.
