Stop emby overwriting chapter image thumbnail & Image optimisation !

This a complaining  post, because i just lost my months of work in optimising my metadata. And im very upset.

Q: How to stop emby overwriting my chapter images?
all of my movies had proper chapter, either muxed from chaperdb or extracted from the disk itself.

And by default emby  - stores these images in the same size as the video, if the video is 3840 × 2160, it will save in that size ( i failed to understand this logic of saving higher rez image).
Also majority of the times chapters are marked at crucial point and their images are black.

Hence all of my chapter thumbnail were manually extracted after seeking all moves manually & added under ~/metadata/library/, for all 200+ titles.

All resized to logical size of 640x360, compress with ImageMagick/tinyPNG.

But it seems after certain period of time, emby deletes my custom thumbnail and writes it own.  80% of the thumbnail are overwritten for me, as i discovered it today.

How to stop Emby doing this?

Frustation #2

if im not happy with emby in some department - its the image handling. from day one i fellt its the dept where emby has lots of scope of improvement.
I always have very much optimised backdrop/poster, compressed with tinyPNG/imagemagic, which hardly cross  256kb, but what emby does - it take the optimzed image and make it 4mb webp file and serve to the client!!

How i stop this as well?

Can I confirm by chapter images - you are referring to the images below (as an example ?)

ok - and you have 'chapter markers' selected in your library or do you have 'every 10 seconds' selected ?

Actually it's a valid question that is needed to help answer this. In the library options. what is the video preview thumbnail interval set to?

hey sorry for not replying earlier.
But i figured out the trigger what caused that - a change in file path.( and not after a period of time as i assumed earlier)
as i was organising my library to not store all content in same root folder, created few top-level subfolder and moved contents inside those.. hence it re-hased all content re-created all chapter images, etc.

To mitigate i have used a python script to find all chapter folder in library and resize all images to 360p - which worked.
But again manually creating non-black chapter images.
so lesson learnt - never change media path :)
