HansPC 0 Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 HI, My Emby server disappeared completely from my win11 PC. All files in appdata/roaming are gone and no trace of any install. When I try a new install i get this message-log (attached) and it refuses intstall. Please assist me in finding how this could happen and how I can install Emby Server fresh. F7YHBGO8.log

Luke 42080 Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 Hi, it’s possible you have antivirus or security software that mistakenly wiped it out and is interfering with the new installation. Can you look into this and let us know what you find? Thanks.
HansPC 0 Posted August 24, 2023 Author Posted August 24, 2023 (edited) Hi Luke, Nothing is changed since yesterday evening when all was just fine. Just after booting up this morning (day off) I wanted to add a library and then discovered all Emby related folders in user/appdata/roaming where all completely gone. The shortcut of the server.exe was in the startup folder and that is it. Can't explain it and after that I tried of course to find out why. First updated Bitdefender Total Security, installed the latest updates of Windows to see if that would cure it but it didn't. Deactivated all anti-virus/firewall related programs but not luck there. Keeping getting this logged message after the installer quitted and have no clue what has caused that. I am luckily no noob in ict but the log did totally not ring a bell where to look for. So for now what I did is I downloaded the portable version and copied that to the appdata/roaming folder. This way I managed to get it to work again but the installer exe still does not work. So that is why I did send you the log of the installer because there is no other log related to Emby server. Would be nice if you could tell me what is missing or what is going wrong when executing the installer exe. Waiting for you advice. Cheers, Hans Edited August 24, 2023 by HansPC
Neminem 1519 Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 What's in you evenviewer in windows. There might be a clue, as to what happend. 1
HansPC 0 Posted August 24, 2023 Author Posted August 24, 2023 Immediately after trying to run the installer I looked into the windows event viewer and could not find any related log corresponding with the time of the tried install. So the log from the installer itself is the only log I got and I can't figure out what that means. Cheers, Hans
Luke 42080 Posted August 25, 2023 Posted August 25, 2023 This might help if you want to try it: https://support.geocue.com/the-referenced-assembly-is-not-installed-on-your-system-exception-from-hresult-0x800736b3/
HansPC 0 Posted August 25, 2023 Author Posted August 25, 2023 Thanks for the suggestion. But.... in the suggested folder “%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0” there is no folder with the mentioned “asps..tion” in it. The folder “%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0” is not empty but contains no reference at all to the files mentioned in the article. So my question still is what is causing the install of the Emby Server for Win11 to fail???
JoLas 26 Posted August 25, 2023 Posted August 25, 2023 (edited) Have you checked that you don't have any other new userprofiles? Sometimes when a userprofile for some reason crash Windows starts a new one renaming the old one to %userprofile%_old or something like that and try to populate the new one with what Windows thinks is relevant. I've seen this happen quite a number of times after Windows update on the computers at work. Edited August 25, 2023 by JoLarsson
HansPC 0 Posted August 25, 2023 Author Posted August 25, 2023 No, as said ALL Emby Server related files were completely gone and no new user was added. It just worked perfect day before and next day after booting all files were gone and as said trying to run the installer gives this fault log.
Neminem 1519 Posted August 25, 2023 Posted August 25, 2023 If you only use this command “%USERPROFILE% to get to your userfolders. Then you will only see the user logged in. If you use file explore and goto c:\users You should see folders like " Default " , " Shared " and your user. You also need to show hidden folders and files.
HansPC 0 Posted August 25, 2023 Author Posted August 25, 2023 For years I use the Norton Commander clone Total Commander and I alway have the hidden folders visible. As said all Emby realted files in appdata/roaming were gone. Just totally dissapeared and I have quite some safety guards in place to prevent hacking, malware or other kind of preventing other strange stuff to interfere with all my things connected to the internet. Just waiting for someone of Emby that can figure out the fault log from the installer.
Neminem 1519 Posted August 25, 2023 Posted August 25, 2023 (edited) Hmm did you look at the logs. This is a translation from Dutch to English. The following errors were encountered with this operation. * [24-08-23 09:54:14] System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException - The referenced component is not installed on this system. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800736B3) That means you are missing something in you system. Is it fully updated ? Is something blocking you update ? HansPC 0 Posted August 26, 2023 Author Posted August 26, 2023 Windows Update is working just fine, please read back my corrective actions already taken.
Neminem 1519 Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 Ok sorry for my suggestions. in order to try and help you. I will not try anymore, hope all works out well.
Luke 42080 Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 Hi, can you try installing the .net framework and see if this resolves it: https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet-framework
HansPC 0 Posted August 26, 2023 Author Posted August 26, 2023 Hi, Did that as one of the first actions I took but unfortunately did not help. I try to focus on the part in the log "System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException", the part where this is referring to is not installed on your system, Source: System Deployment. Just can't figure out what part that is. Can't debug the installer because the installer is just a call to get the installer files from your server and there something goes wrong because the installer files downloaded request this "System.Runtime.InteropServices.COM".
Luke 42080 Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 The installer is a Windows ClickOnce installer, which admittedly is an older install mechanism and at this point we're probably due to build a new one. We do see issues along these lines every once in a while where a required Windows component is missing that ClickOnce depends on, or anti-virus/security software blocking the downloading portion of the install. Both of these can be side-stepped by using the portable build as you've discovered.
Luke 42080 Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 Quote Did that as one of the first actions What exactly did you install?
HansPC 0 Posted August 26, 2023 Author Posted August 26, 2023 I am running 4.8.1 version. For now the portable version works fine but just want to know why the installer halts. I even removed temporarily Bitdefender completely and disabled Windows Defender but that did not work either and also cut out the router with a direct line to my ISP connection to rule any interference out. Sadly nothing had any effect so I just keep on searching npw and then during the day whe time allows it.
