fatshotty 4 Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 Hello i experiencing some stranges with poster.jpg files saved into tvshows/movies folders. It seems that emby removes those files after updating metadata. my libraries configuration was including "save images into folders" and "pre-download all images" . Indeed emby generated all posters file into each folder, that's correct! That's what I expected ,wow. But now, navigating into my libraries (tvshows and movies) emby becomes very slow because it accesses the filesytem for reading poster.jpg files and responds them to my client app. It took some seconds for each item That's odd! I think emby should get poster.jpg and save them into its metadata/cache folder in order to read the files from there and keep fast listing However, today I modified settings of my libraries unselecting "save images" and "pre-download images". A new "update metadata" job has started and now there are no poster.jpg files into folders into emby logfile I read: ``` Image encoding using Skia to /config/cache/temp/22599d1f66644d90a0ccd28c176bcd23.webp took 5938ms for /path/to/my/folder/media/movies/Teen Wolf - Il film (2023)/fanart.jpg. Now moving to /config/cache/images/resized-images/c/c4064f3a-4008-aab4-d5ff-8fcf8ff073be.webp ``` indeed /path/to/my/folder/media/movies/Teen Wolf - Il film (2023)/fanart.jpg doesn't exist into movie folder anymore Any help about that?
Neminem 1518 Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 Are you using Radarr ? Have the movie been updated by Radarr ?
Luke 42078 Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 Hi, Emby does not move your image files? Why do you think Emby did this? Or is that you don't know why it happened?

Indeed there are no fanart.jpg nor poster.jpg into movies folder, now. Why emby moves those files? I think emby should read those file without moving them

What log file entry do you mean? It may have just been making a copy, but it doesn't touch your original images.

Thanks for reply As per my first message, once I unchecked "save image" and "pre-download all images" in tvshows and movies libraries settings, after "update metadati", all poster.jpg and fanart.jpg are disappeared. I have no poster.jpg files into my movies folder. In logfile I see "fanart.jpg. Now moving to /config/cache/images/resized-images/c/c4064f3a-4008-aab4-d5ff-8fcf8ff073be.webp" Should I check somethings else? thanks

An Emby app requested an image from the server at a specific size, then the server resized the image and saved the output to /config/cache/resized/xxx That's all it did. Again, the server did not move your original images, but if you can attach a complete emby server log, then i can tell you what it was doing at a given point in time.

fatshotty 4 Posted August 22, 2023 Author Posted August 22, 2023 Hi, I just reproduce the problem as per attached screens (sort by number ) 1) no poster / fanart in movie folder 2) enable "save images" and "predownload images" 3) refresh all metadata 4) poster / fanart appear into movie folder 5) disable "save images" and "predonwload images" 6) refresh all metadata 7) poster / fanart disappear from movie folder here is the portion of log file about my tests https://pastebin.com/j2qJHyaG
Luke 42078 Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 It's because you clicked replace existing image, so that's how it works. Your existing image gets deleted and a new one is downloaded.
fatshotty 4 Posted August 23, 2023 Author Posted August 23, 2023 ok, got it that makes sense however, I would like to make emby uses my poster/fanart file, but I need emby copies those file into its metadata folder in order to make listing fast. Let me explain: I have a rclone mount with all my movies and tvshows files (and folder, of course). I noticed that emby is very slow while listing my contents because rclone is slow accessing poster/fanart files. So i'd like to make emby uses my personal poster/fanart at the first point, but I need emby copies those file into its metadata folder and uses them (from there) in order to make listing very fast. Hope this is clear what I mean thanks in advance
