Remote control mapping (flirc)

Emby Theatre 3.0.20 - Windows 10 i5 Intel - Flirc Receiver and Harmony Remote.

I can navigate fine i.e up, down, left, right, back (sometimes), select and record with one button press.

My issue is mostly with live tv. I cannot use the remote numbers, and when viewing live tv I can’t get to the guide up from pressing guide. I can get the info screen up and navigated to guide that way but it would always start from channel 1 and I could be on 137 for example.

Interestingly, on fire tv the user experience is absolutely amazing.
Live tv channel numbers work, up when viewing live tv brings up the guide with the channel i’m currently viewing. Down brings up info (with more details like player im using), stop actually stops media.

is this actually possible on windows?

I have gone through all the media remote setting in flirc/ harmony and remapped available controls to see if I can make it work but it just repeats the same actions.

Hi, can you please describe what you mean by this a little bit more? Thanks.

Ideally, I would like the guide button on the harmony remote to be mapped to open the shorter epg guide when viewing live tv.
I can do this by pressing up on the fire tv or  the guide button on the tv remote via cec on the fire tv.

this doesn’t work on windows.

hope that helped, sorry for not explaining it before.

What keycode is flirc sending for this?

We could program any regular keyboard shortcut in Flirc to open the osd guide. Or we could program the options/menu button that exist on FireTV and newer Shield remotes. That's how it's working in the AndroidTV app.

You might be able to program it to send any key, but the app is looking for certain keys for certain functions. What key code is it sending?

You should ask @ebrfor the Android key code that coresponds to the options/menu button. But for Windows i don't know. If you say Ctrl+Shift+G will open the osd guide, we would assign Ctrl+Shift+G to some button press of any remote and that's it. We do not directly program any key code in Flirc. The key code that Flirc will send depends on the device we choose to simulate. Either a FireTV, Shield or MCE remote, or a regular keyboard.

This is how we assign any physical remote button to a key in Flirc:

That's the receiving end of it. The standard android app has a screen that lists out the supported key codes, so what you need to do is check the keycodes that your remote control is sending against that.

In Android TV KEYCODE_MENU, KEYCODE_GUIDE controller button Y and special program button Yellow all will produce the guide during live TV playback (as will the UP button).

We are asking for a shortcut key to directly open the osd live tv guide, because neither the standard android app, theater on windows, nor the web app has that!
So what should we check when there isn't something to check? The same goes for number input. Your apps have to react on number key codes to navigate thru the live tv guide. You have to code the functionality in your apps before we can try to program our remotes sending the correct key code.

Actually this is already there. The same keyboard shortcut that exists for the tv guide can be used during playback.

No, it's not there. It opens osd on now but not osd guide!

Was the osd already open when you tried?

It seems to be working ok in my testing. Can you try it again? it's ctrl-g.

ctrl-g brings up the guide for me but it always starts on channel 1. Fire tv always brings up the channel I’m watching.

If I’m on channel 100 for example, I’ll have to keep scrolling down to the get past the channels I’ve already gone past each time.

Any way of getting the number pad to register with windows yet? It seems non existent.

Yes we can certainly do that. And channel number support is planned for future updates. Thanks.

Thanks for keeping note. Aside from these, live tv has been a pleasant experience.
