crusher11 1102 Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 There's a metadata option for "display order", but what does this actually do? If I have my files named by DVD order, and I select DVD order, does it just work? Or do I need to still name them in aired order, and then switching it to DVD order changes the way they display within Emby?

You need to refresh metadata afterwards. 1 hour ago, crusher11 said: Or do I need to still name them in aired order, and then switching it to DVD order changes the way they display within Emby? Nope, they need to be named according desired sort order.
crusher11 1102 Posted August 10, 2023 Author Posted August 10, 2023 So it doesn't actually affect the display order, they're always displayed in the order used in the file naming. It affects the identification.

They are not, they're displayed in selected sort order, as S02E05 doesn't discern per se, you'll still get it scraped and displayed in Aired order by default even though it might be S02E05 DVD Order, which doesn't have to correlate. Emby doesn't know that before you specifically tell if so by selecting different display order and redownload metadata and then display order will change to reflect that. Right, but that episode will always be displayed as the fifth episode of season five, it just might have the wrong metadata if it's in a different order, correct?
GrimReaper 4748 Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 Yes, where would it be displayed otherwise?

It affects the identification. You name the files with the numbering of the TVDB sort order you intend to use. The file order will always follow the numbering, but when you select the correct TVDB order the correct corresponding metadata will be fetched to match the contents (whose order will have changed when you renumbered the files to match the database order selected). crusher11 1102 Posted August 11, 2023 Author Posted August 11, 2023 Right. That's what I figured made the most sense under the hood, but the fact that it's called "display" order made me unsure, as that implies it's purely a front-end thing.

Yes that is a good point about the label of the setting.
